Probably the worst experience I've ever had at USC. Does not teach actual material, leans on teaching theory and leaves most people without a clue. Good person, but just not a good professor at all. However, I attempted to contact him to seek help about 5 times during the online period of our classes due to COVID-19 and never got a response.

Dix is a really nice guy, who does care about his students a lot. Sadly, his teaching style is not great. Unless you have a specific question, he just rants about each topic and can actually take almost 40 minutes on one problem. Study for the short quizzes every couple weeks. Exams are word for word from the book. Not great prof, gets the job done

DO NOT TAKE THIS DUDE. Its literally a self taught class. He can be rude sometimes even if you ask a simple question. However, the exams and quizzes are word for word from the homework problems. Should've got an A but final was FIB and didn't go over all the concepts.

Worst professor I've had. His lectures don't help, they are spent either doing one problem, or worse explaining one concept in depth without doing any problems. He makes you do the homework before teaching the section. His tests are out of the homework problems at least. Not even sure what to study on the final, since he didn't really tell us

Be prepared to teach yourself. He doesn't teach a thing during lectures and is very confusing. You get homework everyday you have class and it is all online. In-class quizzes every week but they are only 2 questions and if you go to the SI sessions you'll be fine. 3 exams and one final all set up just like the quizzes in class.

I do all of the homeworks and go to a lot of the SI sessions and still do not understand some of the material. Sometimes he goes over only 1-2 questions in class and spends the whole class talking about them but it does not help. If you already struggle with math, you should look into getting a tutor at the beginning of the semester.

All of his lectures are him basically going over homework questions in class that students have because he RARELY teaches material required for homework assignments before they are due. When he does choose to go over new material all he does is explain proofs and "why things are the way they are" instead of how to apply the concepts.

The worst professor I have ever had. He has weekly 2 question quizzes that he expects us to take in 10 minutes, then spends literally the rest of the class doing ONE of the quiz questions. He then puts 10 questions on the test directly from hw but he assigns at LEAST 50 questions a week and the avg of the tests are LOW with no curve or extra credit

Saying this is a self-taught class is an understatement. While Dr. Dix is a nice guy, he is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. Quizzes and exams come straight from the homework with the exception of the occasional question intended to trip students up. Averages on exams are always terrible, and he offers no form of extra credit or curve.

Dr. Dix is a kind person but a boring lecturer. His weekly quizzes are very easy but the tests and homework can be slightly challenging. I frankly didnt find his lectures useful. He doesnt teach the concepts well.

Dix gives a heavy workload, but as long as you do and understand all these, you will do well. I struggled with every test but aced my homework. That was enough for a B.

He is a genuinely nice person and knows what he is talking about, but he is a god-awful professor. Concepts are poorly communicated to students during lecture, and there is essentially no such thing as review in his class. Only good thing is that the tests come straight from the homework, but that only proves how this is a self-taught class.

Worst professor you could take for Vector Calc. Tests are from the homework word for word, but that doesn't help much when there is 250 problems he could choose from. Lectures are useless Because you'll just have to teach yourself anyways. I say if he is the only professor left do yourself a favor and wait until next semester so youll actually pass

Extremely hard professor. I was constantly working on homework/studying for the class. He assigned over 60 homework problems a week and tests were only 10 problems. VERY TOUGH GRADER. Very little time for tests and he rushes through class and doesn't give any examples. Unable to convey necessary and useful information. Do not take him.

Unless you have a specific question, class time consists of him explaining the material in the most difficult way imaginable with no example problems. The only upsides are that test problems come straight from the book and he's a pretty nice guy. Partial credit is very limited and in many cases, if you don't do the problems his way, you lose points

Avoid him at all costs. He is the most unorganized professor you will ever come across. Tests are incredibly hard, No fixed amount of quizzes. Takes an eternity to grade the tests and quizzes. Questions can also appear from outside on the tests. All in all, this could be the worst mistake you ever make.

His tests actually do come straight from the homework. You might need to self-teach but in classes this hard, you need to be looking over the book anyway. The final exam was ridiculous though. The class complained they didn't want a final based on only two sections and so he made an exam of definitions last minute. Yay. Not.
