Caring professor, always (and really, always) available to help. Reasonable grading schemes, very focused on students learning. Great lectures but fast, you'll get lost very quickly if you don't pay attention.

Kesden is extremely energetic. Some people like that, some people don't. But no matter your opinion on his teaching style, there's no denying that he cares about his students. Kesden has kept his office hours open throughout the night (I've seen him on at 5am) helping students. He insists that you can call him any time, any day. He cares a ton.

Very hard to pay attention teaching style. Lecture style not very good for learning. Can't really expect students to learn if you ramble on and on with examples that don't necessarily explain the concept you're trying to teach.

Comment:
Puts effort into using metaphors, analogies and storytelling in his lectures. Good teacher. The labs were very fair; I loved that he gave us so much freedom to do whatever. The frivolous complaints are from people who needed excessive handholding or had little hands-on programming experience. He was so lenient and easy on his first class at UCSD.

Avoid this professor like the plague. New to UCSD, but is unorganized and has no idea how to manage large scale classes.

I'll give him slack because it was his first quarter teaching at UCSD (Fall '15). He was very energetic and knew the material. Tests were actually the practice exams that were provided, and the group projects were graded extremely leniently. Passing the class with a good grade was not an issue because I didn't need to learn or retain anything.

Shows up late to class. Admits that his lecture slides are incorrect but doesn't correct them before he posts them online. Unclear instructions for group project. Doesn't prepare you for the final

Okay, I was thinking he's a good professor until I saw his final. Every single instruction is very vague. Would not recommend.

If you want to raise your stress level for some reason, I highly recommend taking his class. Of course, you wont be learning anything except the fact that he's the worst professor at UCSD.

He's late to class and doesn't seem to teach. Rather, he shares stories and tries to engage the class by hitting other students and jumping on their desks. I would not recommend this professor. He also seems to have temperamental issues (ie hitting students). Worst and most annoying professor I've ever had at UCSD .

I agree with what the 3.9 GPA student is saying. I definitely don't think he is a good instructor, because he is always late and unprepared. I have never taken a class in which students wait for the professor for 20 - 30 min each class. The project starts from week 5 with almost no preparation. I don't really learn anything from this class.

This guy is by far the most annoying professor I've ever taken. He has no sense and I think he's he snorts cocaine before coming to class. He is useless, very unclear about the grading scheme, extremely disorganized and a massive waste of your time. Believe me when I say this, I'm a straight A student with a 3.9 GPA. I know what I'm talking about.

Energetic and tells fairly engaging stories, but I can remember one time when a student-worker came in to try to fix a faulty projector and when the student couldn't fix it he started ripping on the kid. Not a class act

Class lectures are superb. He keeps the class interesting and really knows the subject matter. Sometimes assumes you know too much and isn't thorough enough during office hours. Seems confused when you don't get it. Class is the hardest one i've taken in my life.

Moves fast, spends more time telling funny stories, climbing on desks, and throwing things at his students than covering lecture material, but is helpful outside of class. Keep on top of your work and lecture is hilarious.

He's such a little boy. Annoying. Too busy taking care of tons of workload. Assumes students already know most of the materials probably because there are many graduate students in the lecture. If you are advanced and want to know much more, he is great.

Great teacher. Thoroughly enjoyed his class. If you have him, ask him about the Chinese textbook that used some of his code. He makes some good exceptions.

I came into the class not knowing C but by the end of the semester I knew what was going on. Most of the stuff you know are learned from his extremely hard labs and exams. Don't take him if you want an easy A
