This is the thing....if you can handle not ever really knowing the expectations for the class and showing up everyday then you will get an A. The initial reading list is absolutly wrong...don't buy any of the books until it appears necessary and you can bs your way through class discussions. Show up everday, talk, and he will love you.

He knows all his stuff but instead of teaching it to you he has you read the book. He does so in order to work later with primary sources. But, given that the material is not clear and that there are too many pages to read, it is useless. For an upper level course it may be better, but for a 100 level course I was extremely disappointed.

Dropped Hood's class on the advice my history advisor, Hood is seriously messed up and the dept has tried to fire him, but it is hard b/c he has tenure (which he got in expectation of a book he never published). Anyway, so he does what he wants - shows up late brings his kids. TERRIBLE

A really nice guy who means well but was definitley the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire academic career. Is brilliant and knows a lot about history but knows absolutely NOTHING about teaching. Is very unclear, didn't teach us anything, and was a month or two behind the entire semester.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but when I took his class freshman year, I really enjoyed it. We read really interesting works and he always had good stories. I know a lot of people in my class felt the same way...

God, this man is still teaching? I thought he would have been locked away somewhere by now. I took Revolutionary & Napoleonic Europe...let's just say we never made it to Napoleon.
