Super nice and relaxed. Doesn't give a midterm or final; only graded work is 4 essays. Really relaxed with due dates and extensions. I had to miss class for a week due to a death in the family, and he was super accommodating. Most of the class is discussion based, so I wouldn't recommend if you're uncomfortable participating a lot.

Professor McCartin is a great human being. He is nice and just the best person you'll meet at Fordham. In terms of academics, I recommend his class to anyone who is looking for a fair professor. If you do the reading, participate in class, and put effort into your writing (no tests, just essays), then you should have absolutely no problem.

He's a pretty great guy. He demands a lot as far as reading, but there's only 2 papers and a midterm and a final, both of which he gives you a week ahead of time. I almost dropped this class and I'm glad I didn't. He makes it interesting, like he's telling a story. He's passionate about the subject. Respect him and he'll respect you.

Good guy, easy going, extremely knowledgable about the subject. Fair grader and very willing to cut you slack with due dates. If you respect him he will respect you. No laptops, but his lectures are usually interesting enough that you don't mind not having your computer, a rarity for the HIST department.

If you do, he give's you the mid term and final a week before to prepare your answers and memorize. Need to keep up with the reading gives about 5 books, novels not hard! Great Teacher!

Catholicism/Tradition and Reform...He's a great professor. Great class 100% discussion format--this class had 3 papers and no exams. Two 5 pagers and one 10 pager. Its nice to have a class with no midterm or final. Focused on history of catholic tradition from 1500-2000. Very interesting stuff-thought i'd hate the class but wound up loving it.

Excellent professor, passionate about the material and knowledgeable, truly a gift to SHU. Very clear on what he wants for the essays, if you're supposed to use a specific amount of sources then use them and argue your point in context with the course material. He even gives you the question pool for the exam, what more can you ask for? Take him...

He hits you with lots of HUGE readings, which can be a pain. He also grades the essays really harshly, even the ones on the exam that you have like 20 minutes to write.

Not a bad teacher, long lectures but he is really into it so it's funny. I don't like history at all so it was still boring. Must study for tests and write well to do well, but he is a nice guy so he's not a bad choice.

Having met Prof. McCartin on occasion, I think he is a teacher who can relate to his students. He's really hard on you for grammar, though. I look forward to taking his class and having him give us great lectures! (ha ha!). You rock, Professor!!!
