One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Not only did he ruin philosophy for me but he was also incredibly rude to many people in the class. He will not let ppl do extra credit if he doesn't think they're good enough to and doesn't respond to people he doesn't agree with. He is incredibly close-minded

This guy is very closed-minded and opinionated considering he has no idea what he is talking about. Pretty sure he doesnt even read papers as I wrote all of mine in under an hour and got A's on all 3. One of the worst and most boring classes I've ever taken.

Very Opinionated. Cannot comprehend any view point other that his own. instructions for requirements on papers are extremely vague, but grades harshly for not being able to read his mind. Completely useless went asked a question. Very degrading if he considers what you say/ask is a stupid question. The worst professor I have ever had.

A philosophy teacher with single minded opinions and little acceptance for ideas outside his perspective. Be prepared to be called out and insulted in front of the class for asking questions or even participating in discussion. He changed required reading material 2 weeks into class and the book was not even available at the campus bookstore.

As a purported teacher of philosophy, it's a wonder why I can't find any of his prior qualifications. Where did he study, did he attain a PHD in philosophy, and if so why isn't he able to answer the questions presented to him about philosophy outside the scope of his class ?

Great teacher, i learned a lot about thinking outside the box, if you know nothing about philosophy, here is a good start, hes a great teacher, he uses the book a lot, however he really focuses on a few ideas of philosophy so if you dont understand them, hes a pretty tough grader, but if you do, its all about attendance so you cant fail

this man is simply the worst professor i've ever had a class with. he teaches philosophy but is violently opposed to any sort of discussion, cant understand the book he assigned and grades entirely on whether you agree with him or not. this man should be removed from his profession!

By far my least favorite professor ever, although I can understand why people may like him. Easy, easy A in this class as long as you agree with everything he says or are able to keep your mouth shut if you don't. I was one of the unfortunates and got into many, many arguments with him in which he tried to belittle me for disagreeing with him.

Hines is an idiot. I expected in a PHILOSOPHY class to learn about PHILOSOPHY, to have debates and discuss things, not hear about an old man ramble and shoot us down whenever we had an original thought. You don't learn about philosophers, you only hear about semi-religious cults and Iris Murdoch. You've been warned.

John "Happy Hank" Hines is THE best teacher I have had. He is extremely brilliant, friendly, approachable, and he's just a great guy all around. If anyone is naysaying him- it's because these are the people that will end up dropping out anyway. It sickens me that people don't always respect their instructors- especially one of this fantastic calibu

Hines your the man. The class was a wonderful learning experience. He was a fair grader and i felt was one of my best teachers. If you get the concepts and read the text(although hard at times), you will really see a difference in yourself. Got an A. Great class and would do it again in a hearbeat.

Incredibly easy, but also an incredible waste of time. If you don't mind spending the money for the credit alone rather than learning anything, this is the class for you.
