I think overall he's an okay professor , he does get off topic easy making it hard to understand what's actually class material and what isnt. However, I had him for ME4850(machining) and ME4140(mech. Deisgn I) and I'm hoping to have him for senior design just because his classes have energy to them making the topics more interesting.

Comment:

I love these types of classes. If you show up, do the work, & use the textbook, you shouldn't have a problem with Dr. Lieh's class. Some people never showed up to class and then they complain about their grades. If you're looking for hand-holding in college, especially ME, then forget about passing. Overall, decent class and professor!

He puts a lot of effort into his notes and powerpoints. Being biligual myself I understand how people can have problem understanding his lecture. He is from Taiwan and has good work ethics.

No matter where you sit you cant really understand what hes saying. The in class assignemts are easy but pointless and you really dont learn anything. It's a great way to waste time and talk about nothing for an hour and a half. Probably wont learn anything new taking this course if youve already taken matlab before

Had him for Senior Design. Heard bad things, but gave him the benefit of doubt. Complete waste of time. Misused our time, was unprofessional, interrupted our presentations for no reason, allowed other students to be rude and disruptive, cancelled class 5min prior to start, and still didn't know half the people, in a class of 16, or their projects!

His accent can make things difficult to understand. Lectures consist of reading slides which are word-for-word from the book. Start the project early, he is not very helpful outside of class. Doesn't post correct code following the hmwks. Slowpaced, didn't finish all of the syllabus. He is a smart man but my money was wasted on this class.

This guy is AWESOME!. I have had him several times and never listened to a single lecture! Exams are take home! If you dont get higher than a B you are just stupid and please quit engineering now!

Easy A. I don't plan on going into manufacturing anyway, so I didn't care too much about the class, but I still tried to challenge myself by not using the solution manuals you can easily find online. If you ask him for takehome exams, he will let you, which makes everything even easier.

Tests are straight forward and are very negotiable. Know the homework you will do very well. He is funny gets off topic a little too much but his notes make up for it. Good teacher.

Decent professor, but very lenient on tests and policies. Would essentially let the class decide what would be on the exams and even just made the last exam open book and open note when all of the test problems were directly out of the homework. I'd take him again.

Avoid at all costs. The class is made hard because nothing worthwhile is ever mentioned in class. It is impossible to try to learn anything from him, even ood students have a hard time with that.
