Comment:
Definitely knows what he's talking about. But from day one he will talk in computer programmer language. So unless you already have programming knowledge you will be lost from day one. His lectures are very boring. I rarely walked out of class thinking like i learned something. Assignments are hard but labs are easy. Midterm n final are impossible.

Good: knows his stuff, let us have study sheet during midterm&final, gave us 35% bcuz he never did quizzes, let us turn in prog. assn's late, didnt care if we were late. Bad: communication skills are poor and he's sensitive about it, late to class often, cancels class w/o warning, doesn't seem like he cares, never know what grade you're getting.

He's a nice guy. Classes and lectures are pretty straight-forward (boring). Gives you vocab study sheets for every quiz and lots of time for projects. Watch out for that final though.

Comment:
Prof. Reibling knows quite a lot about Computer Science and that field in general, but he does not make the material clear enough when he is teaching. I learn more from reading the book and doing the lab assignments than from going to his classes. He tends to speak in a monotone voice level, which does not help the learning process.

Reibling's a good prof. especially for the intro class, however in the higher up classes it seems like he assumes that you've taken classes that aren't listed pre-reqs which can make understanding him a challenge.

The man is a genius, he has tons of real world experience, he puts a lot into the computer science program. Its too bad that the APU computer science department isn't able to use this professor to his full potential. His best class is software engineering where all his great years of experience come alive. Avoid the APU Cs department not this prof.

His final's are the worst. He gives you tests all semester with a specific format, and then for the final he just totally changes everything. He didn't explain what was to be on there, so I assumed it would be like his other tests. His programming assignments are few, but when they are occur there all at the very end of the semester, :(

Comment:
The fact that he is the only other good CS prof. aside from Dr. Johnson probably explains the range of comments here. Those who hated his classes dropped out of CS because it wasn't for them. I appreciate the fact that he knows what he's talking about and was able to impart a good CS education to me at a Christian school. He will actually treat you like you're in college instead of babying you like many other profs. there, so be prepared to get engaged with the subject and work hard!

Comment:
Extremely unclear, very unhelpful. I would learn so much more about C++ if I were to open to just read the book, take the tests, and do the programming assignments WITHOUT the class itself. I don't doubt he knows what he's talking about, he is just horrible in expressing what he knows to his students.

I think some of these comments are unfair for this teacher. He knows what he's talking about (which is more than I can say for some). If you get involved and ask questions he's more than willing to help. I think Numerical Analysis was my favorite class

I just took his final and there was a lot of stuff on it that I've never seen before. He'll have us do a lab that he will teach a week after the lab.He doesn't explain things very well at all.Even after taking the class, there is a lot of foggyness regarding the C++ language that he "covered" in class

He can be difficult. But some of the best teachers usually are. He has a deep knowledge of course material and has real world experience. His lectures and assignments are good. His only negative is that sometimes his tests can be unpredictably difficult covering tangent in-class topics

Comment:
Very unclear. Did not explain things. Not understanding! No compassion and does not seem like a teacher who wants his students to learn! I do not recommend, but if you are reading this you probably have to because there are not any other teachers teaching it because the CS department at APU is weak.

Comment:
He says he took 18 years to get his degree so he repeats "I am emphathetic, but not sympathetic" therefore there are no make up assignments or tests. Not very forgiving nor willing to work with students beyond minimum APU requirements.
