I enjoyed her, she knows a lot about rock history even though she can be subjective at times. Regurgitate her lecture points in tests/papers and you'll get a good grade.

These other comments are lies. The criteria covered in class will not help you on the test. I have never received a C at Colgate till I took The Beatles with this lady. She is very vague in lectures, and makes you pay for it on papers and exams by saying YOU are not detailed enough. Unless you are very in tune with music, I would stay far away!!!!

Professor Cheng is an amazing woman. I had the privilege of playing in the orchestra under her leadership for 4 years and taking History of Rock with her. She is a caring, courteous, and bright professor. She loves teaching and cares for her students. She has high standards for her students in class. Overall, one of my favorite profs at Colgate

Professor Cheng is very knowledgable about music and it shows in her History of Rock lectures. It is easy to participate. She incorporates short oral presentations and uses discussions to start class. Readings are useful but not all necessary. Tests are very long but not too difficult if you take good notes. A very interesting class overall.

Comment:

If you practice a lot of the final test you will receive an a- if you are really good, and a b+ if you are okay. Marietta is a wonderful conductor but rarely thinks of the students, but she tends to be kind about seniority. If you don't like being a small part of a group with little voice, it is not for you.

Comment:

Professor Cheng is nice and fun to listen to lecture. She is very good at keeping her students involved in class. Notes from class are used verbatim for tests, so it is very important to be in class as often as possible. Outside reading is not essential.

Cheng was a very good professor for this course. She explained everything very well and gave us a lot of practice and help in class. As a result, I had very little homework and studying to do outside of class. She also made sure she got to know every student very well, so it was a very friendly and fun atmosphere in the classroom

Had her for the History of Rock...doubtless it's hard to teach a course with this subject material without becoming victim to bias, but every word out of her mouth is sheer opinion. But she is an extraordinarily nice woman, and the class is fun.
