This professor knows his math but his teaching is difficult to understand. He really expects you to almost already know a background of the material taught. He isn't modernized yet and will never post your grades up online so you really won't know your grade until almost the drop date until you calculate it yourself.

Get ready to read because you will be teaching yourself! Dr. Petty is a nice guy but a horrible professor. He expects everyone to already know everything. If you try to ask for help, he will just tell you to read the book and work some problems. Quiz grades are very important so study and learn before each quiz!

Petty is a horrible teacher. In lecture he explains things with no detail making it very difficult to know what hes talking about. All of the quizzes and tests are hand written with very sloppy hand writing making it difficult to read. Also he says "you should have learned this from your other classes" - how can we know this if its our first class?

I had NEVER needed tutoring for math until I took his class! He knows what he is talking about clearly but no very good at explaining it to those who aren't math geniuses. He doesn't use technology and you would have to go see him to know what your grade is! Weekly quizzes are 60% of your grade. Book is needed, you're basically teaching yourself

I love math and this professor was easy to understand but you had to be at every lecture. If you aren't good at math you could still take this course it would just require a little more work and a lot of asking questions.

to concise, if you wanna learn "I mean understand math well" not just looking for a C or D to pass, then look for a more qualified professor. He DOES NOT explain things well. He also never uses blackboard for anything even grades! you need to visit him from time to time to see where you are! old fashioned! all test and quizzes are hand writing!

He is a nice guy and will help if you ask, but he talks in a very low monotone that can get old real fast, your quizes are worth 60% of your grade. Does not give homework which I hated but knows what he is talking about.

I took him for intermediate and college algebra. he is really boring the same routine every day but you really do learn alot and he teachs it to you like you are a little kid. it really makes you understand. i would take him again for sure
