Comment:
Dr. Theriault is very knowledgable, and with this course introduces students to history of infectious diseases, and biosafety. While exam questions can be tricky, as long as you keep up with the lectures, and attend class, you should be able to do fairly well. Prof makes lecture interesting and engaging, and guest lectures were very interesting.

This class is super early but Dr. Theriault makes it SO worth it - among the best professors I've had at the U of M. Definitely need to attend lectures if you want to pass, as his lectures aren't posted online and he tests on stories that he tells in lectures. Midterm and final were fairly easy, no surprising/tricky questions.

This was the first year he didn't provide notes, so it was really tough to get everything down. The material can be interesting but also dry at times, more so dry. Paper is an easy 100% if you follow his guidelines and have the entire 10 pages. Memorize everything. He said there wouldn't be specifics from midterm material on the final but there was

Few people can make an 830 class as interesting as Dr. Theriault did. The course is fairly difficult and the exam is all long answers. He tells a lot of stories which are testable so make sure you attend class.

Great guy! He keeps lectures interesting by telling many stories relevant to the material. Buy his lecture notes from the bookstore, but also write down everything he says because even the interesting facts and stories are testable. Exams were long answer only, which were tough but fair. Not easy to talk to outside of class with no office at school

Great lecturer. Holds your interest during class and almost always dismisses early. Buy lecture notes from the bookstore as he skims over the slides to tell side stories (but all both testable). Midterm tested fairly for the most part, but placed unusual emphasis on random details. Be prepared to memorize; flashcards are your best friend here.

Great prof! He has some very interesting stories. It is very important to go to class and take notes. A fair marker for both the midterm and research paper. If you pay attention in class and take proper notes you will do very well in the course.

Notes are provided and can be purchased from the copy centre. Exams are straight-forward in short and long answer format. Be prepared to jot down "interesting facts" mentioned in lecture, as they will be tested. Prof provides opportunity for bonus points, and is overall clear and enthusiastic about his course.

Great Prof, he makes the classes interesting. You should take notes of the 'interesting facts' because he makes some questions about them. Get the class notes. The exams are long and short answer questions.

Midterm covered ~80% of entire course. Informed class that final would be non-cumulative but WAS cumulative. Tests whether or not you 'know the facts' rather than understanding. Course is all over the place & is eclectic mix of facts(ie.history of disease to lab features). Easy marker, no difficult material. VERY different from other MBIO courses

Fantastic prof. Clear, easy to follow, no tricks. No text, get his powerpoint notes, that's what he tests off of. Alot of info, but knows his stuff and makes it super interesting. Study his practice questions cuz he puts those on tests for easy marks. Great for help and likes getting questions in class. You have to study, Take him if you can!!

Awesome Professor and great class all around. Really emphasizes the role of microbes and preventative techniques for nurses. If you attend all of his classes and review his notes you should do fine. Responds insanely fast via blackberry, but usually does not return tests/exams on time. I recommend him to anyone who likes MBIO or needs it for BN.

Professor Theriault is an excellent professor. He is very clear and knows how to make a 2 hour class fun and interesting. His only downfall is having a busy schedule. As a result he does not always live up to his word (ie. grading pprs on time, replying to emails). However, he is very kind, smart, and handsome.

Awesome prof. Can clarify everything, and if you leave little details off of your tests you still get full marks usually. I liked how he printed up a course packet so we didnt have to buy a textbook too. Just as a warning the exams are not usually multiple choice, but if you want to be a nurse, your job wont have multiple choice situations.

He's absolutely the best. University of Manitoba should be proud to have such a creative, intelligent, and critical mind volunteering his time (albeit paid) to help assist future scientist and nurses. If you take the time to learn the material you will be rewarded and in turn believe the course was useful, insightful & easy.. if u dont! then u cry
