Comment:
Tonghai is a bit hard to understand, but you can easily overcome this by not going to lecture. Although lectures are pretty useless, Tonghai is a genuinely nice and funny guy. Plus lots of extra credit.

Comment:
A bit hard to understand at first, but you get used to his accent. Moves kind of fast through problems in lecture and can be hard to keep up. Can be funny sometimes and seems to genuinely want his students to succeed. Sometimes goes over material that isn't necessary for the test, but overall an average professor.

His accent was a bit hard to understand at points, but once you get used to it he's a pretty funny guy. The online homework was a breeze and exams were straight forward, but if I had not taken this class (AP Calc) in high school it would be much more confusing. Tong hai is a really sweet guy when it comes down to it and pushes us to do well.

He has an accent, which might make it difficult to understand some of the words he's saying, but you'll get used to it after a few lectures. Seems to genuinely care about his students. Expect most of your learning to happen in your discussion group or on your own, for his lectures can be a little tough to grasp.

Comment:
10% of the class is extra credit. 5% for participation, and 5% for an online pre-calc practice exam (takes awhile but it was a helpful review). His lectures are pretty bad, basically all proofs, but if you've taken calc before then you'll understand what he's trying to get at. Exams are easy. Online hw is a breeze. written hw is conceptual.

This semester he gave 10% extra credit, He dropped 2 lowest quiz and homework grades. Basically if you did half way decent on the exams you would be fine. Wasn't that bad actually. He is though to understand though.

You can read the books by yourselves but His lectures are really insightful. Exams are kind of hard, but the good thing is that unlike other professors, he don't give much homework! He has a strong accent, but this is math! Accent doesn't matter!

Comment:
Tonghai definitely knows what he's talking about as far as the material goes, but does a pretty terrible job of explaining it. When about half of the amount of students are at lecture at the end of the semester vs in the beginning, you can tell there's a problem with it. His accent is nearly indecipherable and it does not get easier.

Lectures are pointless because I never understand a single word of what he's saying. Go to all of your ta's office hours. If you have a bad ta, you're screwed for the semester.

I wouldn't recommend him if you have another decent option. His accent is terrible. I only went to lecture once a week and instead worked on the homework with a friend in the class and got my A that way. The one lecture a week that I did go to didn't really help and I mostly went so that I felt like I was going to class at least a little

Very fair grader. Tests are very manageable. Unfortunately though he is very confusing lecturer. Honestly don't go to lecture and higher a tutor/go to your TA's office hours

Horrible instructor. Atrocious at laying out his work, and you can hardly understand him at all. Don't even go to class, just read the book. Only thing that made his class bearable is that the tests are straightforward. I do NOT recommend.

Tonghai is adorable! His accent took a little getting used to, and when he gets excited he talks faster, but going to lecture was worth it. Reading the book was even more useful. Do the homework, and you should be fine.

I had him for both math 234 and 319. He's funny and you learn from him by going to class, but if you're okay at math you can probably just skip his class and read the book.

You don't have to go to class, since it is not worth it. Instead of going to class, play some basketball or play some xbox instead. Tests aren't bad at all. All you need to do is to study the textbook. Oh plus if you get a bad TA, I highly recommend to switch your discussion section or drop the course..
