he talks slow and drags on a lot. Lectures were a little boring but he's clearly very passionate and it rubs off a little. Just do the journal entries (they're like once a month), know the readings, and you'll be fine. He also has Greek vocab that was really annoying to learn (you have to for quizzes) but it wasn't hard.

Great professor. I always feel overwhelmed by essays but visiting him during his office hours really helped me to get started. I knew very little about Ancient Greece prior to this class but I found his enthusiasm infectious. As a non-flowery writer, I appreciated his criticisms on my essays and I feel like it made me a better writer.

Pretty nice guy and his lectures are pretty straightforward. If you do the work you will do well in his class. Participation is a bigger component of this class, but it helps in understanding the material so it is understandable. Very nice and understanding prof, would take again.

He is most definitely knowledgeable on the subject, but sometimes too much. If youre looking for a random language to take and think that this will be the one; dont do it. Its full of classics majors who already know the words and things that normal people do not know, and he doesnt teach it.

An amazing professor and incredibly interesting. The readings and assigned homework are incredibly important but if you put in effort you should get an A. Another key thing to achieving an A is participation, he heavily encourages it and its part of the grade. If you never speak up in class this isn't for you.

Prof Scholtz is really nice. Not a lot of work and tests are easy, just a lot of reading.

Don't take any of his classes if they involve a writing aspect. He is one of the hardest graders when it comes to papers. He is the reason I didn't pursue more classics classes.

Great teacher!! Very enthusiastic about the subject which is always a huge plus. Tries very hard to get everyone to participate but isn't like aggressive about it. Very understanding about outside difficulties. Kind of crazy and eccentric in the best way possible. Reminds me of Doc Brown from back to the future.

He is the embodiment of the quintessential negative stereotype of the college Professor. Over educated, under experienced, pompous and demands attention. He wouldn't survive a day outside the classroom. You leave the class not learning much of the material, since most of it was crammed and not taught in a useful immersion way.

There's no question that he's brilliant. However, if you tend to be creative or tangential in your papers, don't take his class. He'll drop your grades like rocks if you don't follow every detail of his instructions, which are often extremely vague or scattered about the course site. Very unclear about what he wants, yet a complete stickler for it

I have taken two classes with Scholtz and this is what I can say from them: He is a grammarnazi of the highest order, and will pick apart your paper at the seems. He demands attention and your presence. If you are not looking at him and note taking, he will call you out. Just do the work; listen to him and don't BS and you will do fine. He is nice!

I took Clas215 for my H gen ed. I was not initially very interested in the class material but Scholtz was so enthusiastic and obviously knowledgeable, which really peaked my interest. You must do the reading, and speaking up in class and showing your critical thinking skills on mid-term and final (both essay form) will help. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Scholtz is the best professor I've ever had. He picked the best readings to discuss the class themes; everything was topical and interesting. Though you do have to read alot for every class, so if you're assignment averse, you'll do pretty poorly in this class.

Def has his favorites in class. Won't call on you unless youre one of them. Heavy amount of reading but not all boring. Lectures can be boring. Not a hard class if you come & do your work but can be hard to tell what he wants. Discussions go round and round, not a straightforward guy.

The class is easy, as most of the tests and quiz's are based on the homework and classwork. So: make sure you do the homework and pay attention and you will do good. There is not much more to it then that. Sure, the class can get a bit tiresome and somewhat boring. His still a good prof.

Asks questions, feeds you the answer slowly, then expects answer. Wastes time that way and you feel lost on chapter quizzes. LOTS of quizzes (right after you learn material). Seems nice but awkward and often funny. Asks for attention like a 2nd grade teacher. Textbook is execrable - get a review book. Inflexible on homework.

he came off as a bit pompous and that ticked me off. class was not interesting even though the material was. i guess our personalities just clashed. whatever. class could have been so much better if the lectures were more interesting, but it was just him, his five dollar words, and powerpoint. snore.

What an odd little man. Nice and strange guy, class wasn't too hard at all. Lots of reading but whatever, interesting subject. I dare you to get a strait answer out of him though.
