Instructor is the worst I have ever had... She does not care about students what so ever. In an online course she refused to let us use online resources for programming and demanded we used her notes. YET her notes do not give all the information needed to complete a program. Her class will either go 2 ways; You get an A or an F.

Doesn't seem to care if you learn the fundamentals as much as, you learning the way SHE teaches the fundamentals. Believes technology never fails. If you don't have a computer background I would avoid her classes. The class goes from 0 to 60 quite quickly. Also, her TAs do the grade work and give no feedback on areas to improve upon.

Dr. Carlson was a great professor; she is passionate about the work you put in if you really tried. Once you get into linked lists and using pointers, I began to question what she was talking about. However, she would answer your questions if you had any. Her exams are incredibly difficult! Most of my grade was from class work, labs, and programs.

I remember struggling really hard on the programs and labs, it felt like what she would cover in class would barely apply to the programs or not at all. I remember multiple times saying "how do you even get that from this".

Show up to the lectures and you'll learn everything you need to know. The programming assignments apply exactly what you've learned in class, but if you put in a little time and effort they're not difficult to figure out. She uses great examples that help you understand complex concepts.

She has experience in the field, so she really knows what she's talking about. She is the "show up to class or you're skrewed" kind of professor, but she really cares about students and makes sure they understand all of the material. If you show up to class and do the assigned work, you'll get an A easily.

lots of homework mainly because programming takes a long time for me. make sure for your finals to study up on whatever concept last covered (cause that's usually the free response)

This was my first Computer Science class and I managed to keep up. Just make sure you go to all of the lectures and you will be fine. She made coding pretty easy for a beginner like me to understand, while still giving challenging enough programs for the more experienced students to not get too bored. You don't need to buy the textbook.

Most organized lecture of computer science I have ever seen. It is a pleasure to go to class. She is big on student involvement throughout the lecture. If you have no programming experience, this class will be a nightmare. If you have some, then you will do fine.

Lots of information in every class. Have to sign in to every class and will effect your grade if you dont. She doesnt grade assignments, but her TAs do. She will however help you out if shes even there at the labs well but doesnt explain how to do it or why it works, just tells you the answer. We used the book once waste of $150.

She moves very fast, but if you keep up, you'll do fine. This being my first CS class, she taught very well and uploads all powerpoints to canvas. She gives clear grading guidelines, and if you do all labs/programs, you should get an A. Tests are kind of hard, but if you go to SI, you should be fine. Labs every Friday, so no class those days.

This class is the definition of busy work, possibly not all her fault, but still... Class is a nightmare if you own a Mac and not a PC. Also, Mrs. Carlson is not understanding when it comes excused absences and makes up random school policies.

I felt she was great teacher. I paid attention to the lectures and took notes and I was fine. If you are interested in programming and want to commit time in order to learn, she is a great teacher. If you aren't interested then you probably shouldn't take this class, it's a fair amount of work. I learned a lot, and plenty of extra credt

I took the class but it was much harder but it's CS. The teacher was nice and friendly. I liked her personality but in my view the book lacks information and the class work was good in that. The assignment was build on but it CS and her teaching style is to let student use what they know and her stuff. There no hand holding on her part.

I had her for CS 1000, she's very clear cut about what you need to do in order to pass. Just study your notes, complete assignments on time and complete the practice exams and you will get an easy A. She also gives a ton of extra credit.

Comment:
The teacher is kind and the course is mainly toward people with technical background no example but heavy use of book which is useful to learn terms for exams, but differcult to do assignement. " Need prior experience" Also no team work in doing lab and limted teacher advices or only text example. However, these class is toward intellient people.
