Comment:

Here's the good first: His grading criteria is easy, it's 4 exams and attendance, that's it, no homework, papers, or projects. The bad is that he isn't too clear on lectures and he doesn't use powerpoint so you don't know what to study for on the test. A lot of reading too since you don't know exactly what to study. Overall I would recommend.

While this class was fairly easy, I can't say I enjoyed it at all. The lectures are boring, and he's prone to going off on tangents. Most of the time I would just space out in class, and then read the book at home.

He stands there and lectures for 3 hours. He doesn't use Power Point and sometimes goes off on tangents, so it's hard to know what you should be taking notes on. He will spell it out for you more clearly before the test though. He goes out of his way to make the books cheap. No papers, projects, or homework; just 3 tests. Hates cell phones!

Russel is probably one of the most arrogant professors on campus, he is self centered and doesn't care for your opinion. oh and don't bother asking for any help, because you will not get it and look like a fool. his points are unclear, and has no explanatory skill. The class was all lecture. Very boring but you need to pay attention. Asks random people for questions and you need to contribute. You need to read the books for the tests and take good lecture notes. It was an okay class, wouldn't take him again.

Lectures entire time, which I liked--but you NEED to be paying attention and taking notes. Don't miss a class, either--no book. Exams do-able, if you have good notes to work from. Quite enjoyed the "old school" class approach, would take him again.

This was the first sociology class i've ever taken, and I was very dissapointed. The class was SO boring and the tests were difficult. We only had 3 tests then the final, he dropped your lowest test grade, but I still ended up dropping the class.

Russell Really Knows What Hes Talking About. He'll Lecture The Whole Class, Be Prepared To Take A Lot Of Notes But He Does His Best To Appy The Topics He Teaches About To Things That Are Happening In His Society. His Cell Phone Usuage Policy Is Very Strict So Don't Expect To Text During His Class. Overall The Class Was Fairly Easy And Interesting.

SOOO boring. Every day he just walks in, stands at front, and talks in a very monotone voice for and hour and then leaves. Almost impossible to sit through an entire semester, and isn't clear at all with whats going to be on tests. Never hands tests back so you have nothing to study from besides reading the entire book. Get out if you still can

It was a required course, but still. He said none of his tests would include "trick questions," which could not have been more of a lie. He picks out minute and unimportant details from the reading. By allowing 7 absences, and picking obscure references from the book, you're best of studying the book hardcore and skipping his boring lectures.

umm...basically the worst professor i have ever had the hardship of taking a class with. his lectures make me want to die on the spot because they are so boring and he attempts to add in the most dry pathetic jokes about stillborn babies and other non sense that just make me ill. james russell has made me consider changing my major which i love.

Very intelligent man. Lectures can be a little dry, but he is fair and tries to make a very hard subject (Marx) more interesting. I would take him again, unless Dugan was teaching the same class!

nice man, very smart. BORING CLASS. he lectures the whole time and the material is so uninteresting. he likes to make everyone go around and make a comment for the class about the lecture at the end, which is annoying and embarassing. He likes to single people out a lot and assumes we care more than we do about the material.
