Jane is bit of a tough grader, she gives very clear instructions on what is expected of you when completing a lab, good amount office hours, responds fast to emails.

Hard but fair marker. Allows a cheat sheet for the final exam but I would recommend studying because there is limited time. Pre-labs weekly but you have unlimited attempts. She is very helpful when you ask her questions.

I found Jane to be a great lab prof! Her instructions were clear and easy to follow, but she was a bit of a difficult (but fair) marker for lab reports. Make sure to pay lots of attention to detail when writing them. Her final was a little tricky but she allowed a cheat sheet which made it easier. Overall would recommend!

Jane is a very nice lab prof. She cares about her students and makes an effort to learn everybody's names. Yes, she is a tough marker. Don't expect a great grade on the first lab report, but that's how you learn what she expects. Be very careful with sig figs, that can lose you full marks. Overall as long as you pay attention to detail, recommended

I did not find jane to be a hard marker but she is a fair marker. Chem writeups need to be detailed and accurate but if you put in the effort you will get a good grade. Very clear lab procedure explanations and she allows unlimited attempts on her pre-labs. Very accessible outside of class and allows a cheat sheet for the final. Highly recommend.

She isn't the easiest marker, however it is fair and she gave tons of feedback. The lab final was tough but she allowed a cheat sheet, making it a bit easier. Everything on the final was from the labs and was fair. She also makes sure to put in the effort to learn everybody's names and seems like she wants every student to do well.

I've had Jane in the past for both 113 and 114labs and I don't agree with majority of the negative comments. She isn't the easiest marker but she's fair in marking. Just don't put the wrong sig figs and you won't lose part marks, simple as that. She's crystal clear on explaining the labs. Very willing to help if you ask her questions. Overall good.

Seems caring and helpful, wants folks to do well and answers questions if you have them. But marks really tough compared to other instructors, so just be prepared if you want to take her.

Well, she's nice and has good availability. Teaches you good lab skills and can explain things well. But marks first year labs extremely tough and expects too much from hand-in assignments. Gives you 1/2 the time for finals. Maybe she's better for upper level, take her if you want, but be warned- she expects PERFECTION from first year students.

All the comments here saying she's a hard grader haven't really helped to improve this lab. Still doesn't go through labs before, and expects prelab questions to be done before. Says you can come in to ask, but how do you ask for the entire lab ? Definitely not good for your gpa if your looking for med school. be prepared to teach yourself.

Was in her lower chem labs, now in 113. Her final is outrageously hard especially because she expects you to do practical lab work AND theory in half the time you should be getting for a final. Doesn't teach ANYTHING and then takes a lot of marks off for things you were "supposed" to know but weren't warned about. 1 sig fig error loses you 5%.

Sure, makes you learn lab skills which is great for future chem courses but at the expense of your grade. Sometimes randomly decides to mark only certain parts of lab reports without warning you, so you could get everything or lose a third of your points. Plays roulette with your marks. Expects perfect lab technique from first year students. BEWARE

Yeah, she's sweet in class.. but definitely not one that helps your GPA in the end. Taken her lab before for previous chem courses and disappointed there was only space in her 113 lab. Marking is BRUTAL and the final is 1.5 hrs, so like no one in the class finished. You're supposed to get 3 hrs to write a lab final, or at least give less material.

Jane appears nice in class and offers help, but makes you rush like crazy to finish labs so you can have time to clean up. Marks labs way too hard for first year, expecting you to get results that are idealistic to what she thinks it "should be" or you lose marks. Has pre-labs that take too long simply because there's no help in the lab manual.

Deducts marks for the most ridiculous things on lab reports. You would expect her to just mark the calculations and lab report for what it is. Calculations not too hard- ask for help via email or office hours. But you lose marks for not having "perfect" data, and no help given, so each lab is basically an exam (without a lecture).

Mostly, UFV makes great prof choices, but not this time. I don't think anyone's going to major in CHEM after a lab experience like this. Should have taken lab with Sarah instead. Spends 30min talking about procedure ONLY, makes you spend another 30min cleaning up. Hurries you to get labs done but expects you to get perfect data or you lose marks.

Absolutely awful Chem Lab Instructor-AVOID AT ALL COSTS. There is absolutely NO HELP or pre-lab lecture given to explain how to do calculations for lab reports and she refers you all the time to the lab manual which actually is just a copy/paste of the questions into a book. Makes Chem labs no longer fun. Worst UFV prof ever. No words.

This summer has been my 1st semester of university. Little did I know, taking chem 113 condensed was an awful idea especially considering I had never done a chem lab before. Jane was a wonderful teacher who helped me outside of class and genuinely cared about my mark. Though I wish I had done better, I'm proud of my first university mark. Recommend

Jane explains the content very well. Her grading is fair too. The final is very fair. There are no trick questions. Strict about the amount of time you're given to write the final but she lets you know in advance. She does answer to emails and is usually willing to help but there are some questions she will not answer cause she wants you to think.
