The professor was great, but I wouldn't recommend this class for a GE. Kirtana was sweet and told interesting stories in lecture--but when it came to section, the TA's were horrible and not helpful. It was impossible to get a hold of my TA (emailed him twice--never a response) and I never ended up getting my midterm back. Skip this class.

Clear and easy class, gets boring and her focus on india is a bit frustratingly one-sided. Not terrible for a required class, but not highly reccommended just as GE.

First 2 weeks are China, last 2 weeks are Buddha. The 6 weeks in between are allll Hindu. I went a bit crazy hearing the same stories over and over. Good teacher, interesting lectures. Make sure you get a good TA, switch sections if you don't.

Very sweet lady and has great enthusiastic knowledge of the subject. I had to get used to her weird accent, but after that, the class was smooth sailing and very interesting. Her personality made the class a lot more enjoyable.

easy class. i fell asleep in lecture a lot but purely because the room was dark. read a lot before the test and go to section you'll do fine. good beginning teacher for the subject nice lady. adorable and always interested in what student have to say.

Kirtana is very passionate about what teaches. Always encouraging her students to not only learn the academic material, but also experience it. We made rice powder floor drawings with her and her amazing mother and also visited a Hindu temple to witness

i went to class maybe 5 times, that's including the midterm and final. 9:30 was too early for me. loved my ta she didnt know jack about asian art haha. regardless i crammed the nights before the exam...and i got an A. dooo it.

Comment:

The best professor I have had thus far. Very clear with explaining the different religions. Accent is a bit difficult to understand at first, but as the quarter goes on it definitely becomes easier. Sit in the front of the class, you'll get much more out of it. Also, the TA's for this class are very helpful, in more ways than one. Take this class!!

Easy to study for. Just find comparisons between similar images for the midterm and if you know how to write, you're good. Lecture is necessary.. If you don't go this easy class will become very hard. Try to sit towards the front cause her accent is thick and she's a little quiet.

Comment:

Kirtana is incredibly knowledgable about Indian art history and culture. Class mostly consisted of slides and lecture with a midterm, final and final paper making up the final grade. She is very clear on the faith and rituals of the different Indian religions and is very excited about the subject.

Quiet voice; hard to hear sometimes. Highly intelligent, and knows a lot about Indian Art/history. You'll do well if you study.Stay on top of the reading! Lectures and videos can be so boring you'll cry. Essays easy, slide identification really difficult.

She means well and knows alot of background in the cultures (especially india but not china) lectures were kinda boring (often fell asleep) and her tests were random. Her TA's also did random assignments (coloring re-reading homework)

Prof. Thangavelu is dazzlingly passionate about the artworks-- very inciteful, in depth. Long lectures get boring, but she's good at recapping everything. Essay tests/fill in the blanks were a bit arbituary, didn't review, but overall pretty good.
