Comment:
Dr. Ward is great for lower levels of Spanish, but not so much for intermediate. I wish he had emphasized more on the speaking/conversational aspects of Spanish, but it is a lot of learning grammar once and not really using it again. The class is very relaxed which is nice, but I would like to be on my way to fluency.

Tests and homework are very easy. I recommend him for beginner classes to get the basics and ease into a language course. Homework is doable and he is very flexible on the exams.

bad teacher, forgets/mixes up his words often, has severe difficulty with technology (projector, emails, ie doesn't know how to email us to say class is cancelled), the homework is so difficult that he has trouble doing it, there is so much homework all of my classes combined do not take the same amount of time (not exaggeration), he's nice though.

Dr. Ward is a nice professor who sends all of his homework online. Attendance is part of your grade, but that is factored in with homework and tests (50%). He is extremely knowledgeable and is more than willing to answer any questions. He does sometimes forget what he is speaking about.

very smart man, very nice when I had a family emergency. But his tests are ridiculous, half of it doesnt test your understanding of the language, just your memory of something you read in the culture section or something someone said in a movie you watched. As for the other half, you have to teach yourself the material because he sure doesn't

Dr. Ward is the most kindhearted teacher I've had. He sincerely cares about his students and wants them to do well. He can be difficult in intro courses because he also does Italian and will code-switch, but he is incredibly understanding of students' confusion. Ask him for help, and he'll re-explain in a better way. Awesome prof!

Professor Ward completely destroyed my passion for the Spanish language. This professor does not teach the class anything. He rambles in Spanish the whole class period about useless information. He assigns a lot of hw, but never reviews the content or helps us understand grammar. Just read the book and you'll learn more than by attending his class.

The worst Spanish teacher I've ever had. Seriously, I learned nothing in this class. Only take it if you don't want to learn Spanish and instead want to be bombarded with useless information and the worst quality of teaching ever.

Dr. Ward is one of the only Spanish teachers I have enjoyed. He is very laid back and has a very good sense of humor which was conducive to my success in class. Are you expected to do most of the work outside of class. His apathetic in intro classes is because linguistics is his major interest. However, he is very willing to help.

One awesome man and professor. I can't honestly say I've ever liked going to class but Dr. Ward made it pretty fun and you will be rewarded for your hard work if you read the book and practice the language in class. You will walk out of the class comfortable with the language, with a bunch of new friends and a new favorite professor.

If you want an easy A, take this class. If you want to actually learn Italian, dont even bother. He's so bad at teaching, it gets to the point where he expects you to teach the class for him 'for credit'. He grades very unreasonably considering that nobody knows whats going on. You will leave the class wondering why you showed up. A complete waste.

I knew more spanish last semester after DeJong's intenstive class than i do now. Ward talks the whole time in spanish and its really overwhelming when you are not at that level. Tests are easy if you memorize the book. waste of time, never taking spanish again.

I missed a test for an excused absense with a sports team. The test I missed was all multiple choice, and evidently he comically made every single answer the same letter. However, my make-up test consisted of long essay questions with no multiple choice whatsoever, even though I had an excused absense.

He actually told me that he thought students would rather have fun in class knowing that they'd have to do more work outside of class rather than be productive in class and thus have less homework and studying outside of class. He's a terrible professor. We watched videos on instructional italian--in Spanish class! What a waste of my tuition money!
