Comment:
Dr. Williams's class was one of the hardest I've ever taken. The lectures were very difficult for me to understand; there were tons of slides, he went on tons of tangents, and I never knew what was important. In addition, the tests were very difficult and he tried to trick you with every question. He also did not input homework until the last day.

Peter Williams was an amazing CHM 114 professor. He gave good in class test reviews and a ton of extra credit. For example, he has a resurrection policy where your final replaces your lowest test score and I got a 105 on it. He boosts your grade by over 3 percent for doing these easy dynamic study modules. 10 / 10 would recommend!

Dr. Willioams cares for his students and seems very knowledgeable about chemistry, but he's a horrible teacher. His lectures are very boring and most of the people skip them as they are useless. The homework is completely different from the actual test. I studied the whole course by myself as the lectures were quite useless. Don't take him!

Horrible at teaching, I stopped going to lectures because he just rambles on about high level chemistry that has nothing to do with the textbook. He seems like a nice guy but I would never recommend someone take him. Tests are extremely difficult but the course is weighted so that you can afford to do poorly on them. Almost everyone gets a B- or C.

He's such a nice guy and extremely smart, but not the best professor. His lectures didn't relate to the labs or hw. Attendance is not required and going was pointless. Labs/recitation are easy depending on the TAs. I only got an A bc the class is so curved, the exams aren't worth a lot so do all the HW, go to lab and recitation & you'll be fine.

Williams is a good guy, but his CHM 114 is ROUGH. Lectures are barely related to exams, and HW is hard but also totally unrelated. His study guides are only outlines at best, and he often puts stuff on exams that he says he won't. He also forgets to put relevant equations on there too. Not malicious, just forgetful. You need to work for an A.

The ONLY learning comes from the discussion sessions, other than that the professor's lectures are completely useless and he puts everyone to sleep, and recitations are very rushed and consist of the just relying on the instructor to give you the answer.

This is the worst class I've ever taken. The material isn't challenging, and my friends in other sections with different professors are actually enjoying the class (imagine that). Don't bother going to lecture, as he never talks about relevant material and will put you to sleep. I managed to get a good grade only from the help of TA's.

To his credit, he seemed like a nice man & I'm sure he is a great person. HOWEVER, just because you're nice doesn't mean you're gonna be a good teacher. That can't be more true of Williams. With a boring class & lack of actual teaching but more side tangents, stay away from this class & choose another professor.

Lectures have nothing to do with whats for homework. Homework is completely different topic from lectures. Provides a study guide that says anything we have covered in class may or may not be on the test. And then theres stuff on the test we didnt even cover. Leaves students completely unprepared for tests and homework. Prepare to teach yourself

Horrible! Goes on tangents during lectures and doesn't actually teach anything. He will sit there for an hour and fifteen minutes reading off of slides that he didn't make. He doesn't give study guides for the exams, and lies about the material on and not on it. Just be ready to teach yourself chemistry with no help what so ever.

he is a smart professor however, he does not know how to teach imo. Only professor without a proper study guide out of all the CHEM114 classes and only reads through slides and rams on and on about things that isn't gonna be related to the material we need to learn for the tests

Williams is obviously passionate about his field of chemistry. He is as smart as smart comes, but that doesn't always make you a good professor. Showing up to lectures is near pointless with him because he will read off slides and then go off on a tangent for a long time. Almost every student in his lecture is confused and lost. Read the book.

His lectures consist of him just reading off slides, he rarely ever goes through a problem, class is all self taught, on the exam he was the only chem professor without a study guide.

The homework problems have zero correlation to to the lecture. You could say that the recitation somewhat helps with the homework, but I would not put money on it. Even if you took honors or AP chemistry in high school, get ready to learn chemistry all over again!

Funny man. Lectures are informational but a bit boring. Posts the slides online along with additional notes to look at, which is pretty much enough to get an A on the exams. Textbook is useful and free, which is definitely a benefit. Exams aren't too bad, mostly just multiple-choice questions.

Nice guy and clearly enjoys the material, but lectures are kind of boring and he goes off topic a lot. He holds Saturday review sessions before exams that are really helpful.

Professor Williams is an amazing guy. He's clearly passionate about what he does & cares about the success of his students. Attendance at lecture is not mandatory & lots of the test info can be found online, but if you truly like chemistry you'll want to go & listen to him anyways. Holds review sessions every Saturday before a test, VERY helpful!

Professor Williams is a very funny and caring teacher! He clearly knows his material to the point where we would spend several lectures on just one specific topic. As a person he was amazing but lectures were a little repetitive and boring. He's great for a solid introduction to chemistry and does extensive reviews for the four tests.
