Dr. Whitfield clearly knows his stuff but at times is not the best at teaching it. Lectures are mostly example problems and the homework sometimes will go along with those problems. Most test problems are taken from Expert TA. You will need to study for his tests though.

Professor Whitfield's exams are hard and he tells you that are 80% conceptual and 20% math for the most part. You will use your iclickers almost every class, so attendance can effect your grade. Attendance is also used to determine boarder line grades.

Im not one for science so this class was one of the hardest classes Ive taken mainly bcus it took so much of my time. The homeworks were only to read a chapter or 2 & answer the questions but it would take on average an hour or more (even though I cheated on 70% of them). Exams weren't hard but challenging. He's a great professor & u learn but oof

Prof Whitfield is a terribly harsh grader, he is rude when people don't understand things, and his "perfect bell curve" is sure to mess up your GPA. Worst prof I've ever had, do not recommend.

He has a good personality and is entertaining in a way. He gives lots of homework which requires a lot of reading. The worst thing to me is that his teaching during class is formulas that's a little bit different from the textbook so it was hard to study for the exam. Going to his class is definitely worth it though if you want to know what to do.

He is a great guy who loves Physics. Very helpful in class and always answers question. You do get a lot of homework, but it greatly benefits your grade. His tests are based of lecture and labs. Easy to follow. Took physics 100 as a science lab requirement, would recommend it.

Prof Whitefield is known for his exceedingly difficult tests. I've had him for 2 classes and the class average on tests where 65 and 75 percent respectively. He rushed through material and assigned homework that would take +5hours each week without fail. His only redeeming qualities are his generally positive attitude and willingness to help.

Chances are that if you are taking 332 you already know that you REALLY have to work to get a good grade. Whitfield is no exception and is brutal with grading. That being said, I am not a Physics major & this was hands down the BEST class I have taken in college. Whitfield's lectures are the most engaging, informative and eye-opening I've ever had.

Dr. Whitfield is by far the hardest professor I've had at this university. He gives lots of homework, and his grading is very harsh. He is super caring though! He is basically in his office all of the time, and doesn't care if you pop in. He doesn't treat any question like it is stupid either. Most helpful professor and learned a ton!

I did not want to take Physics and pushed it off until the last minute, and I'm glad I did! I really enjoy having Dr. Whitfield as a professor. He is very helpful and willing to work with you on assignments and labs. He grades if you have the answer and takes partial points, so it's not too harsh. Keeps class entertaining with demos as well.

Dr. Whitfield is fantastic at preparing you to think like a scientist. His grading can be rough, but it's fair and forces you to pay attention to detail and the process. He's clear and concise in his examples and more than willing to help if you ask. The only drawback is he's not very personable, but overall, you could do much worse than him.

Dr. Whitfield is an amazing professor! He is extremely smart and knows his stuff. He does lots of examples in class that show the stuff in the homework, but a lot of conceptual problems and problems showing how equations are derived, etc. too. If you want an A, you will most likely have to attend office hours, but he loves seeing you there.

He doesnt care if you pass or fail. He is a harsh grader and shows no mercy. He never finishes an entire chapter and puts stuff on the homework that we never talk about in class. He also ignores the students who dont know calculus and uses it without explanation anyway. Also, his ponytail is very annoying. This made my life a nightmare

If you have alternative options for teachers DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS PROFESSOR. Although a professional on the subject matter, Dr. Whitfield is a TERRIBLE teacher and an obnoxiously inconsistent and tough grader. If you care about your GPA and want to learn, avoid him like the plague.

Whitfield is great! He is pretty clear, and always answers in-class questions in a helpful way. My only complaint: ROUGH GRADER! Taking his class is not EASY, but I really would still recommend it. Good guy, helpful both in and out of class. He's also got a decent sense of humor, which is great for a PHYS prof.

Had him for 231 Lab. He's a great guy and fairly helpful. Lab write-up grading can get a little nuts (be sure to get all sig figs correct). I enjoyed talking with him about his thoughts on both Physics and Politics. I'd recommend him for lab. Although I cannot attest to him for 231 class I believe he's on par with Lyle Ford whom I had.

Really tough, but is willing to work with you on stuff so that you are able to understand. Basically the entire class will work together to try and finish the homework on time. Find a study buddy and go to office hours.
