Comment:

One of the best professors that I have ever had. Take her and you will not regret it. Just study the lecture slides for the exams, pretty straight forward questions and not tricky at all. PS: She will also reward you for doing extremely well on the exams.

Comment:

Dr. McGuire has probably been one of the best professors I have had at WSU. She is clear and easy to understand during her lectures and obviously cares about the success of her students. Tests are multiple choice and pretty straight-forward from the lecture. She always is willing to help if you have questions. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND

BEST TEACHER EVER. I TOOK THIS CLASS LAST FALL (2016) AND NOW REALIZE HOW AMAZING SHELLEY WAS. DON'T LEAVE PULLMAN WITHOUT TAKING THIS CLASS.

Comment:

Great teachers, do not have to show up to class but the days that are in the syll that are important. Was able to use flash cards on some exams but have to go to class to be able to know if they are allowed, the day before the exam she goes over any question and tells you if it is on the exam if asked. Loved her as a professor.

I have been dreading this class all year because I am not very comfortable giving presentations. But it turns out to be the best class I've ever taken. Not only was I able to calmly give my presentation but I also gained so much confidence in terms of how I understand science. This was the first professor that made me really read a peer review.

Class started out kind of slow but by the end of the semester we went really quickly through material. This was a great class because all of the information is useful and interesting. I would certainly take another class by Prof McGuire if I am able to. She is very kind, but her tests are challenging. She also answers emails immediately.

Only 4 tests and the dietary assessment. Never went to a lecture all semester and I had a better grade than most people who came to class. If you follow the directions on the dietary assessment, its and easy 90-100 points. Allows notecards on tests, the first 2 were easy and the last 2 were hard. She does not CURVE

Best class I've taken at WSU. If you go to class and ask questions you will know exactly how to study for the tests. Study guides match the tests. Professor is very knowledgable and seems to be very involved in national and international food politics which makes going to class to hear her stories really relevant. Take this class if you can.

I tell everyone to take this class. McGuire is always prepared and very professional. This is a big class but somehow it feels like she is giving a lecture just for you. She never hesitates to answer questions, and if she doesn't know the answer she will find out and let you know the next lecture. Taking this class is a real opportunity.

I love this class. Dr. McGuire has been gone quite a bit this semester, and the substitute teachers have been much more difficult to follow than Dr. McGuire. But I feel pretty good that we are being taught by a nutrition expert. Try to get McGuire if you can.

I really really am enjoying this class. Shelley has taught me more about how to write than anyone else in my life. I'm actually embarassed that I've been writing so poorly. This class should be a freshman requirement. Having this class would have helped me write all the research papers in other classes. In hindsight, those papers were horrible.

Although she missed several lectures due to travel, Dr. McGuire delivered a stunningly impressive set of lectures. She's a no nonsense type of professor, and her presentations are organized and clear. I liked the "clicker questions" at the beginning of each lecture - helped me get a handle on whether I was grasping the materials. Great professor!

I learned so much about how to present and interpret science in this class, and I highly recommend Dr. McGuire. The grade is mainly based on 2 papers and 2 presentations, but the topics are up to you, so you are researching and learning about things you are interested in.

This class has a bad reputation, but I learned so much that I'd recommend it to anyone. Dr. McGuire is gentle in her approach but taught me so much about being critical when it comes to science analysis and communications. Don't skip the presentations because that's when you learn the most. The class helps you become a savvy scientist.

She's an awesome teacher and cares about her students. She is clear in class and uses good power points. She also puts the power points online which is helpful. She even gives out gifts for students who get the highest grade on an exam! Very good teacher.

I had heard that Dr. McGuire was a really good teacher, so I took this section of the course instead of the others. The person who told me was absolutely spot on. I have learned more about how science is done and how to best communicate it than I could have imagined in a two credit course. I wish I had this course when I was a freshman.

Comment:

Didn't ever really go to lecture since class only has 4 exams that are counted for your grade. the notes are all online and if you study those, you are set for tests. making up a test is also very very easy. she is a fantastic, patient, and friendly teacher who is also the author of the textbook so she definitely knows what she's talking about.
