took this class as an online class during COVID-19. The class was zoom lectures that were straight from the textbook and online labs worth 10 points each. Lectures were kind of boring. We had one quiz and one test for each chapter along with homework for each chapter. Not to hard but would recommend reading the textbook.

I am very confused about the mixed reviews. This professor is more than willing to help. However, if you come to her in the middle of the semester and start asking for extra credit and way to improve she doesn't like it. Just study and ask her for help and you will do fine. I was 16 when I took her and passed easily.

She's short w ppl, but is nice & helpful. Took the online course. Enough time to get the work done. Midterms are not as hard as homework/quizzes so don't procrastinate on it, its doable. Wrksheets/Online wrk helps prepare. labs are great just do the prelab work before lab. No pop quizzes/EC. Used book on areas i struggled with. note card for tests.

If you take her, you're going to need to learn everything on your own, she will not be your teacher, she will just be someone that gives you assignments and be there to proctor over your tests. One of the worst professors I've ever had the displeasure of having.

I think that Professor Shea is a great instructor. Nice lectures and she doesn't make the class too difficult (considering how challenging chemistry can be). As the person below said, reasonable time frame to complete quizzes and sufficiently prepares you for her exams. I didn't think I'd like chemistry but with Professor Shea, it was enjoyable.

Professor Shea is so sweet. I had my lecture with her and lab with someone else. Teaching isn't always clear but if you ask questions she's willing to help. Worksheets are provided during class and she walks around making sure everyone understands, she'll help if needed! loved this. ask questions!! homework online and good time line to do it.

Chemistry is hard no matter what prof you choose; you have to teach yourself the material, or go to free tutoring at school. Weekly hw & quizzes are online. In person midterm tests are easier than the hw, mult choice, & she lets you have a notecard each one. She's not mean, she just is a little short w/ ppl. I studied on my own & got a high A.

She doesn't teach. Nit picky with the labs. Her grading isn't very clear. She's nice but expects you to know the material well. Makes you feel dumb when you don't understand the lesson.

This is a hard class and her attitude just makes it harder. Will always refer you back to the book instead of helping you out. Dont expect to learn much from her. All the learning youll need will come from being self taught.

hybrid course I was required to rely on myself in order to learn the criteria she set up. she made it very clear it was our responsibility- understandable I did have a conflict with how she taught and held the lab, she grew impatient with many students and would end up talking through her teeth relied on pearson for hw/quizs 3 midterms 1 final

Taken this class for a major requirement as well as for the physical requirement for graduation. Never took any science classes beyond earth science and biology, happen to do well in biology classes at Mission. Class however wasn't hard, it just that I might have not studied as well as I should have in class, but I think if I try I can get at a B!

She was only my lab professor and was very rude. I fortunately have a good chemistry background (Chem 30A is basically high school chem) so I didn't ask her much but whenever I did, she would seem very annoyed and in a way makes you feel as if you are unintelligent. She is an easy lab grader though. You have to buy the lab manual for lab.

All of her homework and quiz's are on Pearson's mastering chemistry program. Don't skip her lectures as you'll miss out on valuable material. She let's you use a note card for her test which is nice. Would not recommend if you have not taken chemistry before or have any interest in the subject.

What can I say, Chemistry is my favorite. She is a great teacher, gentle soul, enjoys teaching. If you do the hmwk and take her online quizes, you will do great in class. Make sure to show to lab, always a good learning experience! Learned a lot and thanks to her I now have a better appreciation for chemistry.

I did not have high hopes going into this class because chem is a tough subject. Mrs. shea is a great professor. She doesn't make it difficult to learn. Attendence is mandatory because you learn a lot during the labs. If you show up and do your work you'll pass. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I was given a warning by my classmates in my other class. Chemistry is hard in general. There's no easy way out of chemistry. You simply must understand it and learn it.

This instructor is good. Most people reacting negatively were also the ones that were consistently late to class, didn't read the book, and relied on their lab partner and others for answers. This is hard stuff, the minimum won't get you through, but that's not the instructor's problem. This isn't high school. Do the work and you'll be fine.

Professor Shea is a fair teacher. Those of you who have complained simply did not read the book or ask questions. I am terrible at science and was VERY nervous about taking this class because of the bad ratings and because it was chemistry, and I got an A! If I can get an A in the class, anyone can. Simply attend the lab and read the book!

I had no chemistry experience before this class, and honestly, I have none after. I did decently good on the homework and chapter quizzes online, and fantastic on labs, but her quizzes were very vague and I didn't know what she wanted. The homework is online and will mark you wrong if you dont answer it the way it wants you to, even if youre right.
