Dr. Meiners is an incredibly passionate, caring, and brilliant professor. She has given us very up-to-date resources to read, watch, or listen to. Her ability to accommodate and bring forth positive energy made the class enjoyable. If you give it your best shot as far as participation, you will do just fine in the class!

Comment:
Dr. Meiners is very passionate, super smart, works hard to present new experiences to her students, and provides different types of readings (not just academic journals). She expects a LOT of time and work, though which can be difficult if you have a job or family. She does talk a lot, so we would have liked more time for student discussion.

Class isn't difficult, but impressing the professor is. You have 3 assignments, all do at the end of the semester, so you won't know your grade until final grades are presented. She grades you not based on your ideas, but on how your ideas are similar to hers. You'll read A LOT! But don't worry, her class is literally her talking the entire time.

Amazing professor, her classes are not easy but they are so worth it. I felt like I learned so much in her classes. Wish there were more professors on campus as smart as her.

She was good quality overall. There is a lot of work in her course, but it is to be expected. There were a lot of articles to read and they were all very interesting. The only problem is that she seemed to go off on tangents a bit and it bored me (sometimes). (she's attractive but not hot)

I really learned a lot in this class and found it to be extremely interesting for a general level class. Erica was passionate about what she taught, but contrary to others' opinions I do NOT feel that she inflicted her beliefs, rather she would bring up thought-provoking topics that really made you reflect. Definitely recommended

She is passionate and knowledgeable. I felt a little overwhelmed at first, and the reading is intense but the topics are completely relevant to teaching today. I feel like I learned a lot and am better off for taking the class.

WAY too much work for a 1 credit class (4 papers, 2 media projects, lots of reading). Class itself was fascinating & thought provoking, could have been better organized. Erica is great at leading group conversation & clarifying issues. She is extremely accessible and always willing to work with students except she is slow at returning e-mails.

Although this teacher is *very passionate about public ed, she used the classroom to promote her own agenda and not actually teach about the history of pub.ed. LOTS of reading to do, come prepared to discuss (and get off topic). I wouldn't recommend this class and wish she didn't waste our money/time.

Uses the class for her soapbox. Material covered had very little to do with history of public education, more about current topics she's interested in. Multiple 40+ page articles to read each week. Emails went unanswered. Outdated website assignment. Harsh grader & unclear about what she wants. Entire class felt this way too. Avoid her if you can!

She is a good professor who is really passionate about her job. However there is sooooo much reading in this class it is incredible. The whole class is discussion. If you do not talk stay away she does pick on people! She makes it clear at the beginning that her class is the MOST important. Be prepared.

I would never recommened this professor to anyone. The course is hard and heavy reading is required. Many people I knew at NEIU dropped her course. I highly recommend you sign up for a different teacher

Great Professor! She knows what she is talking about and if you give her any effort she rewards with being encouraging and helpful. I learned more in this class than any undergrad I ever had at U of Iowa. You will work but you will learn a lot as well! Take the class - seriously.

Very rude, useless, expects too much, doesn't care about students, doesn't explain well, the class could be easier on my own, for example on the internet, she doesn't teach anything that we need to know to pass this class. No matter how hard you try, it's never good enough. To get a C in her class is like getting an A+ IN ANY OTHER...
