Comment:
No directions for essays assigned, no rubric either. Tests aren't bad once you know how they work. Never bothers to learn anyone's name, which might pass in any other school, but not one that prides itself on being personal and even going so far as having "Not A Number Night" for incoming freshmen. Would recommend taking the other prof. if you can.

Comment:
Dr. Polster was boring and rambled a lot. Make sure you take detailed notes because exams are all essay questions. The first 8 weeks he basically discussed his life, the Amish, Gypsies, and Yanomamo. I personally believe that I did not learn anything about Sociology until after midterms. I wish there was another professor that taught this course.

He actually is an extremely informative professor. He does a lot of lectures but is extremely helpful and caring. He is a good person and professor. Other classes with him besides his mandatory Sociology class are extremely interesting and much more involved. Give the guy a break!

Comment:
His lectures are long and boring. The class is more about his own life experiences rather than the overall view of sociology. I personally did not learn anything about sociology, only about Polster's overall life. He talks about his experiences with gypsies for weeks.

Don't really know why this guy is a professor. He never made directions clear and was a very picky grader. Also never told students overall grade until the very end of the semester. The lectures were also very boring and it was difficult to know what to be taking notes on. Would not recommend this class.

Listen to the lectures and take copious, detailed notes if you're not good at remembering. The tests are all essay questions. There are technically assigned readings, but they don't show up on the test. I regret buying the textbooks. When he assigns a paper, read the directions and follow them exactly because you will use major points.

This professor is amazing and knows what he is talking about. He is a difficult grader and if you attend every class you are in good shape. Tests go based off of lecture-no need for textbooks-make sure you take good notes though-you will surely need it especially when writing papers and studying for exams!

Easy class, but I expect more for $800/credit hour. He may be the only SOC prof to make the subject dull. Monotone and boring. Retire please.

So boring! Lectures from notecards. Grading standards are unclear. Videos used in class are from the 1990s. Double standards for some students. Attendance taken sporadically. Standards for papers unclear. Uses his own thesis as a reading in class. Stay away at all costs. Professor needs to retire and do the school a favor by doing so.

drink alot of coffee before this class- the information is actually very interesting, but you must be alert because its a bit of an overload. he tends to go off on many many tangents and its hard to know what details he wants you to remember. take very good notes and pay attention to grammatical errors on papers- he doesnt care about creativity.

I thought he was unfair in grading the papers. I missed one thing and the rest was perfect and I got a B-, while my friend who had him missed three things and got the same grade as I did. I was really mad.

I hated his class while I took it, but looking back I thinking he's very sweet. ...And it isn't hard at all, I got an easy A and didn't have to take the final. Anyone who says he's hard simply isn't doing the reading becuase there is no homework.

I was there in 2002. The class was so hard. I thought I'd like Soc but all he talked about was Amish and Gypsies. I wasn't interested in Amish because I used to live in a home of theirs we converted. Boring class, even worse at 830am! :P
