Comment:

Amazing professor in every way! The effort I had to put in this class built me up for success in others. Professor Wisehart is very caring and passionate about the environment, so much now that I volunteer to clean up the environment all the time .Be prepared for homework and test! The class and field trips really made this class a gem!

Comment:

Gary's a great guy and a great professor. He genuinely cares about biology and the environment and his good presence makes this class that much more enjoyable. I will say I'm not a fan of his quizzes everyday in lecture as they can eat away at your grade, but other than that I very much enjoyed this class.

Comment:

Mr. Wisehart did not teach outside of text during lecture so did not learn beyond text book. Also, the students were asked to tell him what to teach, spending 25 mins every lecture to get us to do so. The exams included info in more depths compared to lecture. Required field trips outside of lab days. Labs are good but managed properly.

Comment:

Dr. Wisehart or Gary as he wanted you to call him was the single greatest influence I ever had that lead me into science. He opened my eyes to the possibilities like no other teacher, which also brought me to teaching. I will always remember him as the best ever even though I took his course in 1979. Ha, that picture cracks me up! Well Gary is a bit weird but he really knows his stuff and he makes sure that his students understand how science is supposed to work and what it's all about. If you want to learn, take his class.

So Gary has his policies however looking back at the class do all the mastering assignments ahead of time you will miss some if not. There are a lot of ways to do well in his class he allows extra credit and will work with you. Iclicker can be helpful and only study objectives lecture and lab for tests id say overall he is a decent pick for bio.

very difficult teacher. does very poorly at explaining the material.has a hard time with helping student understand the material.his grade technices and requirments are way to much for the for units you recieve. dont take this class with him if yoy wanna an A or B it wont happen.

He was great teacher! I chnged my major to Environmental Studies after taking him! His grading is hard but if you go to all the field trips (labs) you will do well. Lotsa extra credit! If you don't get an A, it's your fault for not doing the work and extra credit!

If you take time to ask questions and see him in his office he will be glad to help you. Realistically though Gary is too Darwinian with his grading. There were only 4 As in my class. I worked very hard and got a B but it was not easy. If you have kids, job, other classes you will be lucky to get a C. Grades are permanent. Take another instructor.

Gary is an awesome professor; this class is extremely comprehensive but that shouldn't be taken out on the professor who has to teach it. Gary is very fair, friendly, knowledgeable,& happy. I was afraid of him based on reviews here but super happy that he ended teaching the class.You really have to study and attend ALL the labs if you want to pass.

Not the worst teacher I've ever had but he does annoy me. He talks down to people and teaches as if we are all Biology majors. He just likes to hear himself talk using big words and cracks unfunny jokes. I wish he would try to make biology more interesting or give us something to relate it to instead of acting like were all idiots. Take Wegs class.

I do not recommend taking this teacher If you are a student that works. The students that gave him a good rating most likely live at home their parents. This teacher could be a nice person but,he does talk down to you. So, take the other female biology instructor. I heard they are wonderful and you will enjoy learning from them. Good luck.

Extremely helpful and approachable. Would clarify difficult material and even the easy material that students were too lazy to learn for themselves. Encouraged students to improve study habits. Overall, a great guy. I definitely recommend taking him.

Lot of the personal attacks on Gary are pretty baseless. Realistically the people who complain the most are also the ones who study the least or are just plain dumb. He can be abrasive if you disrupt class with a cell phone going off, but seriously that sh*t is annoying. He's not a bad guy, he is a good teacher, and help you out if you really try.

Those who passed saw tutors often or worked outside class. When one girl asked him to clarify something, he widened his eyes and said, "Did you just get here?" She left crying. On the last day of class, he said, "I am very disappointed in all of you," implied we had cheated, and then stated, "If you were my employees, I would fire all your asses."

Professor Wiseguy is a good and involved teacher.. he demands you to work hard, and you will likely be rewarded if you do. Bring the book to class and take notes in it during lectures.. all lectures based on visuals from book. Recommended him if you want to learn lots!

Like everyone else said, his class is tough. Too much work involved for the credit received (4 credits). He can be somewhat condescending. His quizzes and short answer questions are vague and can have multiple answers, but he is only looking for one. You just have to read his mind to figure out which one he's looking for. Not recommended at all.

This class is extremely intense and his tests and quizzes are very detail-oriented. Read the book and always keep up with Chapter Objective PDFs on Blackboard. I attribute my "A" in the class to 1) taking notes based on Chapter Objectives PDFs and 2) going to his office hours to clarify notes I took in class.

Intense. If you don't read the textbook, you're screwed. The online material while complete and relevant to the class is a bit disorganized and could do with a revamp. Overall good professor, knows his stuff, encourages participation.
