He has exceedingly high standards when it comes to papers, but mostly you're required to listen to him lecture.

Comment:
McHugh can be totally arrogant, but he's brilliant. The class is not terribly challenging but he will grade papers on every aspect. Definitely one of the most intelligent and interesting professors I've had the pleasure of listening to.

Comment:
Although he is very intelligent, he lacks basic social skills necessary to interact not only with his students, however, with other human beings in general. He fails to give straight forward answers by creating rhetorical questions. If you try to converse with him one on one, it feels as if you are in a debate.

Comment:
A sharp mind and an excellent speaker. If you prefer lectures to back-and-forth discussions, take his class and learn not only the course material but also witness how to be an engaging public speaker. He really should write and use only his own texts - not only because he can, but because he does not stick anywhere near the material in the books.

Try not to have him if you can. He has you read many books, but his teachings never mention anything parallel to them. It is true, he likes to hear himself talk. He doesn't offer much time for questions either. His class certainly isn't engaging to say the least.

He really challenges you but he also works hard to make things understandable. He's tough but fair and willing to help. He's one of the smartest professors I've had.

He seems very intelligent but he is tremendously full of himself. He becomes extremely aggravated if you forget to address him as "doctor." And he's not very nice to his students.

Rather full of himself. Would rather hear himself talk than listen to his students. Extremely antisocial but very intelligent.
