Dr. Jay is a very interesting person. Sometimes he can be a little unorganized and ramble but if you pay attention you will be able to figure out what is going on. Or just ask him. He responds to emails almost immediately, especially when you start working on your semester research project. He is always willing to help if you feel lost.

Professor Sokolovsky was an interesting character, I enjoyed his class and he is a super nice guy! He does talk about his trips to Mexico a bit much but only because he is super passionate about his work. I ended up with an 89.4% in his class.. but I will admit that if you read (there is a lot of reading) you are guaranteed an A.

For the love of god! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This class was so unorganized. He has a stupid electronic policy and acts like you are in high school. His powerpoints were useless, and I learned nothing from the lecture. If you read the books you will pass the exams. Mandatory attendance is annoying and all he talks about is his trips to Mexico.

Comment:
Easy enough class, three tests overall which divide the semester into quarters. There are specific assignments due each quarter, before the test, which were always pretty interesting. The textbooks were even pretty interesting, especially if you're into other cultures. Sokolovsky definitely made the class interesting.

The class is fairly easy as long as you pay attention during the lectures and keep up with the readings. Tests are easy as long as you put some effort out. He is very helpful and pleasant to talk to. He is very passionate about what he does.

It is refreshing to see a professor who is so passionate about what he teaches. He challenges his students and pushes them to grow. I have had a couple of classes with him and they can be difficult but very rewarding. He also teaches skills you can actually use in a career.

This class gets boring sometime but you will learn a lot from this class. There is a lot of reading for this class but when the professor gives lecture, he usually talks about what is in the books so pay attention in class. He is very helpful outside of class. Tests' questions come from lectures, books and some articles.

he doesnt know how to run a college class. he arbitrarily closes assignments and imposes deadlines with no consistency. he goes off on tangents that have little relevance to the course. attendance policy is ridiculous and unfair. tests arent that hard if you read. its just a poorly run class. take another professor if you can.

I am currently taking Sokolovsky's Cultural Anthropology class, and let me tell you... DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES!!! He is a basket case who babbles on and on about his boring experiences in Almonalco. Not only is the class super boring but his tests are extremely hard! His questions don't make sense and your answers will ALWAYS be wrong. DON'T DO IT!!

Great Professor. Tends to get on a talking rant... a lot. But you will learn a lot from them if you actually listen. He is the type of teacher that you will either enjoy his teaching ways or completely hate it. I enjoyed it and did well in the courses I took from him. He also likes to bring food to his longer classes.

I had no interest in this class and took it as an exit req. He loves his work and is such an awesome teacher to have. No busy work, no unnecesary tests. He is straightforward but hilarious. Do the little work he gives and it's an instant A.

GREAT Teacher! He tries to help you out with any questions or any problems you have in class. If you just read the textbook and study for exams you would pass with a A or B and you learn so much. I was not interested in anthropology until this class!
