Comment:
The only assigned work is copious amounts of reading. He's old school, with straight lectures, which are not always well-organized. The tests are difficult, essay-style tests, and he grades really hard and very arbitrarily and his comments are unhelpful. He's knowledgeable, but sometimes it's like listening to the adults from Charlie Brown.

Comment:
Extremely knowledgeable, though very old school-- straight lectures without powerpoints and the entirety of the grade based on three important essay-style exams. Large amounts of supplementary reading was necessary outside of class in order to excel. Otherwise, his lectures were often humorous and very enjoyable, if you could stay awake.

Comment:
If you're into European history, Greene is the man. He knows everything and he's super enthusiastic. So enthusiastic that he goes off topic sometimes. He's also a nice guy if you talk to him. He's a little unclear about how to study but as long as you pay attention and do the reading, you'll be fine.

Comment:
203 is a survey course of Modern European History. Professor Greene is extremely knowledgeable (especially in topics of French history), and is really engaging one-on-one, but his lecture style often evokes memories of the teacher from Charlie Brown, as they tackle tangential points from the reading and drone slowly on without any clear argument.

Comment:
Greene certainly knows his stuff. When it comes to modern European history (particularly France) there's nothing he doesn't know. He is an old school professor in almost every way. Very dry, prone to lectures and really only interested in seeing you regurgitate the basic facts in your assignments. A straight forward, lecture style professor.

Professor Greene always expects the best, but inspires you to meet this standard. I had him in a seminar and he always led very engaging and interesting discussions. He is a fountain of information and an all around good guy.

Prof. Green also was my senior essay advisor, and he was very helpful during that time. I also took two courses with him, and they were some of the best classes I took during my time at Wes. If your interested in french modern history, hes the man.

Professor Greene was my senior essay advisor, and I had him for a few history classes -- I thought he was terrific: the classes were challenging, and he holds students to a high standard. 6 years later, and he still stands out as an excellent professor.

Comment:
Not understanding of persoanl issues. His students must be automatons. Difference in intellectual interest or style are not acceptable. He has been teaching too long and is set in his ways. No room for discussion on anything.
