Let me be very clear in that although many of the courses offered are entry level courses, they are tough. You will get what you put in, slack off and you won't learn much. Randy was always available to help outside of class and always offered insightful feedback. THANK YOU RANDY!

I have taken most of the classes that this professor offered and have a very good overall understanding of his teaching style and character. Let me be very clear in that although many of the courses offered are entry level courses, they are tough. You will get what you put in, slack off and you won't learn much. Randy was always available to help.

I have taken randy for quite a few classes now , and all I can say is that he is great. He can be a grumpy sassy old man, but also kindhearted and enjoys what he does. As long as you show up to class, do the reading and assignments you will be fine. The quizzes are difficult, but you get a study guide for the mid term and final.

Randy has definitely been my best professor, so far. Unlike other CIS/CS professors, Randy teaches you think logically, not just get started coding, and does his best to simply complicated programming concepts into everyday occurrences. Although the quizzes can be tricky, you will pass the class as long as you do the work in the class.

He's teaching a difficult subject, but he teaches it fantastically. If you show up to the lectures regularly, pay attention, and ask questions on what you don't understand, he will never fail to explain complicated ideas in a simple and understandable fashion. Fantastic teacher, I could listen to him for hours.

Access is a very complex program. He was a very good teacher, making sure that everything made sense. He's kind of intimidating to ask questions to but he does help if you ask. The final exam is very hard. If you do the homework and labs well, an A is very easy to get.

Professor Riness is a great professor. I have had him for several classes and all of them have been great. Sometimes his tests and assignments can be hard but he gives extra credit. He is very knowledgeable and gives great lectures where he constantly poses questions to check for understanding. He can be rude or blunt but its rare. I would recommen

He is the perfect image of a computer programming professor. He knows way more then his students and will try to stump them any time he can. His tests are full of trick questions, and everything he says or writes on the board better be in your notes if you want to pass.

Riness is awesome! I had him for Intro to MS Access. If you've ever used Access you know it can be a bit intimidating. Riness was so helpfully extinguishing any anxiety by reminding us "You can do this." As long as you do every homework and lab I don't see how it's not possible to achieve an A or an A+

I agree with most that Randy is very knowledgable, but I am incline to think that he must have a big family. After reading all the high marks he has recieved for "helpful" ...really? He was and is the rudest teacher at SPSCC (it is no secret) again he is very knowledgable and not going anywhere which allows him to say and act any way he please's

Had him for CIS 145, 160, 166, 182, & 245 so far. His classes are not easy, you have to put forth effort. Best part is, a point is a point. If you miss on assignments, you can make it up on extra credit. He cares about the students learning, and makes sure you walk away with the ability to do the tasks.

Randy Riness is one of the best instructors I've had while attending spscc. He really strives to make you, the student think. Because of this, at times his help may seem unclear or ambiguous, but he's just trying to make you think critically. I highly recommend taking courses from this instructor.

Probably the best CIS professor. Very good at teaching database stuff (Access and SQL) because he teaches you to think about the problem rather than just diving in to solving the problem. His classes are a little challenging, so you have to put out a little effort. Don't be afraid to ask questions. He really cares about your learning.
