Comment:
Tony's classes are the types of classes where you put as much into it as you'll get out of it. He never actually checks if you've done the reading or not, but the readings are really interesting. If you actually do the readings you'll get a lot out of the class and open up your mind a little. He is a really great person and super funny in class.

Comment:
Every class is a lecture that consists of anecdotes, often unrelated to course material. Genuinely seems like a kind person, incredibly easy class, but you won't learn anything. This is the easiest A you will ever take, which allows you to take more classes and know that you will pass this one without trying. Turn in assignments and you get an A.

So easy. I mean this class is so easy. All you do is show up and listen to him ramble and write a reflection every week and your golden. If you dont like a easy a then dont take this class, but if you do (and you should) take this class. He is really nice and understanding too!

Very little constructive feedback on writing assignments. The lectures are an hour of Tony telling anecdotes that have little to no relevance to the course material. Tony expects participation but rarely engages in discussions w/ students. The class has almost no structure, and no grading scale-Sadly, Ive gained almost nothing from this course.

Old wise man, that taught me a lot of interesting concepts about our life as the humanity on Earth. Highly recommend, as you will receive a ton on specific feedback on your work, learn new views and ideas, and spend your class not as the routine but as the conversation. Of course, if you like to think deeply than people usually care.

This is most definitely a writing-heavy class. To be fair, it was a 7-credit class and then an 8-credit class, but you had to hand in a paper or two every week. If you do decide to take this class, prepare to doze off in class and read at home and write papers. We don't really discuss the readings in class but the mentor sessions help a lot!

I don't understand the good ratings here. We rate professors only based on how nice they are? Professors should have to actually TEACH something. Granted my writing class wasn't teaching intensive, but when he was "teaching" he just slowly rambled on about anything that came to his mind. I used the class time to study for other classes.

Tony is my favorite and always will be. I look up to him and he is my favorite professor. I have never met a professor who genuinely cares about his students and their future. He's such a sweet man who has dedicated his life to teaching and writing great peices. Learning about him is fascinating! He has a huge heart. Gives As if you do the work.

One of the best professors at PSU, take his class if you get the chance. Which should be often because he teaches at least 1 class every term, sometimes 2. Amazing writer, supportive individual, grandfather figure. One of the brightest people alive. Teaches a lot of writing courses that anyone from any major could survive. Great man, great mind.

really nice guy. too bad it was an 8am class or I'm sure everyone would have been more into it. I felt bad for him because I could tell he really just wanted us to care. He always gave useful feedback on the content of your paper, if not the quality. Overall nice guy, but too easy to take advantage of to have for a U teacher.

Tony is a wizard! He is not interested in strict curriculum or grades in the traditional sense. His class is what you make of it. Put in effort and you'll be rewarded, he always carefully reads everything students write and gives great feedback. If you want to explore echoes of the mind, Tony is your man!

Tony is a super-teacher for those creatively minded people. For others, taking courses out of their major for reqs with Tony may be a bit frustrating due to his meandering style. He's the writer's teacher--and the best at it. For writers: recommended. For all others (including avid readers): Find someone else if you can.

Tony is one of the best writing professors at Portland state. His teaching style is unlike any other professor I've ever had. He lets students create their own path when none as been given. Its about personal growth and pushing yourself. Hes smart, delightful, and quirky. If you're into cookie cutter profs don't waste your time Your not Wolk worthy

One day he handed me a paper facedown and asked me to read to the class, I flipped it over and it was completely blank. Awesome literary NE portland hippy. Always gives honest feedback on your writing. His writing class was just that -- writing. Bring something new in every day, and its retakeable for credit. Pretty kooky dude.
