Berch is a great person, but the course is difficult and stress-inducing. This is probably the only class where I've had anxiety going into finals. Your grade is based on the 2 exams, a 10-minute presentation, and an essay. The lectures are long and hard to follow. The class is always behind schedule and there is A LOT of reading. easy grader thoug

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Although he is very considerate of what students are going through he will waste about 75%- 85% of the class time goin on tangents that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand and refuses to listen to students with questions. I had to teach myself half of the class time and 100% would not recommend.

This class was disappointing. It was entirely meandering lecture when peer-lead discussion was sorely needed. He has a stubborn viewpoint of the world and gets very defensive when anyone questions his black-and-white beliefs. Overall I did fine since I kept up with readings, but I feel like the class didn't teach me much about social movements.

Truly the worst professor I've ever had, lectures the entire time because he loves to hear himself talk, but asks for input and then never shuts up long enough for students to answer. Doesn't actually go over readings in his lecture, so you have to teach yourself literally everything.

Very knowledgeable and has a lot of information to share, but he rambles off into unintelligible tangents that waste class time. He often then holds us over, and gives 3 hour lectures rarely with bathroom breaks. He is a smart man, but his own opinions and viewpoints often take over the lecture, instead of focusing on class material.

Welcome to college. If you need your hand held for every little assignment, go to TMCC. If you want to hear amazing lectures from an expert in the field, take Berch! Very knowledgeable and caring professor. I learned a lot in his class.

He is knowledgeable, but tends to rambles and is hard to follow. He is a nice guy but his class needs to be more structure. There are only 4 grades, the midterm, final, presentation, and participation. Attendance is mandatory every class you miss is -2%. There is a lot of reading. It hard to keep up. The study guides are the test, essay formatted.

The worst professor I have had the opportunity to study under. Wastes a lot of classes & uses class time to discuss his personal political preferences and Marxist opinions. Only have three assignments entire class and gives little direction on how to complete them to his satisfaction and class grades suffer for it. I would not take his class again

Berch is very passionate about his studies but tends to get off topic very easily. I took his class during Wintermester and although I learned a lot most of it was from reading his powerpoints and texts outside of class. He tends to talk about his area of study more than the topic at hand. This is an intro to sociology, not an upper div class.

I've taken a lot of intro level humanities courses and this class was absolutely ridiculous in comparison to the norm. Berberoglu is absolutely brilliant and passionate about the topics, but his rambling lectures are impossible to follow. Take 101 from someone else, especially if you're taking it over the summer and worried about your GPA.

It makes me sad that Berch is allowed to teach. I am honestly annoyed, not just at him, but at UNR as a whole. In the course of two hours we covered 2 slides of a Powerpoint. His tangents last for hours. We never got out of class even once on time. He seems totally incapable of focusing, even for thirty seconds.

This man is beyond passionate about his beliefs and this subject but YOU DO NOT LEARN ANYTHING. This class is entirely self taught if you want to pass the exams, even then you will barely get by. During the class there was only opinion based discussion and since thats not what is tested on, that doesn't work. Very frustrating.

Despite Berch being a smart man, he is unfit to being teaching 101. The contents of the class FAR exceeds expectations of a 101 course. If you are looking to get this course done over summer or Wintermester, DO NOT. Berch assigns many lengthy readings--never references them--frequently invades personal spaces, rambles and is overall very unclear.

He's a passionate professor; he takes the subject very seriously. Assigned many, lengthy readings, but had few tests-- just your usual midterm and final. Assigned a few films to watch here and there, as well. Class itself was pretty long, hence lectures were usually long as well. He's a bit unorganized, but offers help to those who ask for it

His opinions are completely biased & in order to do well on the test you have to think like him. He assigned us 2 books to read yet he never went over them or the other readings that were online. When he does his power points in class, he goes off on huge tangents that don't relate to the slides. I would never want to be in his class again

Berch is very passionate about his work, but he should not be teaching a 101 class. This wasn't even like a 101 class. He goes off on rants that have nothing to do with the course material. He pushes his views way too much and invades your personal space. He is not helpful when it comes to what readings should be done. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!

This teacher is awful for a soc 101 class! He goes off on unrelated tangents every class, and mentions nothing about the readings assigned to us.The class is made up of 2 test grades which were very difficult and he did not prepare us for, along with attendance. Be prepared to study VERY hard if you take him for 101.
