Took COMM127 in Spring. Was very nice and easy-going. Just had 5 quizzes every two weeks and they were based on lecture and the books we read but very easy to get A's on! TBH you could use your "resources" and be good

Why is his rating so low?! I took his class on gender and leadership in the summer and it was very interesting and easy. He does have 2 20-page essays but let me just say that everyone just copied his lecture notes and compiled them into a paper. He barely looks at it and I got 100% on both. The majority of the class all got 100% if they did it.

Professor Linz is so woke. Im currently in his class online spring quarter set to get an a. No papers just tests if u prefer that, not too challenging. He IMMEDIATELY updated slides with crucial information from recent police brutality such as Ahmed Aubrey the next day. Seriously this guy CARES about black lives and your education. Will learn a lo

The class was very interesting and relevant especially now as it has to due with racial injustice and the law. Obviously the class was online due to Corona and he adjusted well. I watched all of the lectures and enjoyed them.

Not sure why all these reviews are negative. I really like Dan. Hes funny but sometimes his lectures can be a bit boring, we are talking about law here so kinda expected. His slides are a bit unorganized as well but if you go to class and pay attention this class is not hard. Study guide is provided and he posts all the lecture slides online!

I would not recommend taking this class if you are someone who likes an organized class. The class was interesting, but the powerpoint slides and lectures were all over the place making it hard to keep up. I took the class over the summer, and it was only a midterm and a final both worth 50% of your grade. I would not take him again.

TAKE PROFESSOR LINZ! He goes out of his way to help you and there are no tricks on his test, if you study the material and show up to class. The test is straight forward if you pay attention to lecture and simply review the material. Midterm, Final and a paper. Linz is willing to help if you do the work. No tricks.

Great professor. Made class really interesting. Grade is made up of multiple-choice final and midterm, offered lots of extra credit opportunities! Posted lectures online, but made class fun. He tries to trick you on tests, but if you study his lectures and understand the material you'll do fine. No textbook, just readings online. Def recommend him!

Dan is a bit disorganized, but the material is very straightforward and posted online. Both classes were composed of two 50 Qs multiple-choice exams: a midterm and a final (non-cumulative), both worth 50%. He also offers 14 points of extra credit and weighs the class to help everyone's grade.

I have no idea why all these comments are negative.. Its probably the students and not the professor. LINZ IS AN AMAZING TEACHER! ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES. He is easy going and has fun teaching the class. Just show up to class, listen, take notes and youre GOOD. Book is sorta not necessary. AGAIN, take his class, YOU WILL LEARN! Love him

Comment:
Very disorganized and Linz goes off on unrelated sexual tangents quite a bit. Only lectured for 45 minutes which was nice. See the TA regularly for help because Linz is all over the place. Tests are long & not as "straightforward" as he likes to claim. READ THE BOOK & don't listen to him if he tells you there aren't a lot of Qs from it - THERE ARE!

By far the worst professor I have ever had at UCSB. His lectures are unclear and scattered. He is impossible to reach, and never returns emails, and the midterm and final was a joke. He promised a study guide a week before the test and did not post it until the morning before. You have been warned.

The class was sort of disorganized, but the study guides given out by the TA made sure you got a B or higher on the exams. The exams were pretty straightforward, either you knew the information or not. The info is dry but I think that's because it was communication law.

Comment:
Linz's spontaneity and lack of organization makes the class a drag. Lectures are boring as hell. His midterm was a wreck - a "study guide" of random terms was given out and he asked a lot of unrelated stuff on the test, screwing over everyone. 2 required Powerpoints with vague instructions are assigned - he changed one to a paper last minute, too!

113 could be an interesting course but unfortunately linz made me never again want to take a media class at ucsb--very unprofessional and unorganized. only likes to talk about sex and****ography in the media. teaches only from a liberal standpoint--brainwashing students instead of educating them. not worth your time.

Comment:
Easy class, easy A, but if wanting to take a class of value and higher education, would not recommend it. Raunchy and degrading images shown during lecture w/o any discretion or discernment-Linz thought this was necessary and "educational" in teaching 113. Only taught from a liberal-minded perspective, never presented both sides of an issue.

interesting class, grade based on three papers (5-7pgs), was supposed to be a 4th 10-12pg research paper that he dropped cause he was disorganized, papers are straightforward, hes nice and funny but not organized which can get frustrating, lots of****ographic material shown so stay away if easily offended

Say no to Linz! He's horrid and goes on totally random tangents that have nothing to do with the class. Everything's on his powerpoint, and I mean everything (including the final). Oh, and he doesn't put up anything on eres like he promises. Avoid At All Costs!
