Comment:

Easily one of the professors that I respect the most at this university. He is extremely informed but yet understandable at the same time. I could not recommend this class enough; it taught me so much and forced me to confront so many aspects of myself. I needed that. I am so glad I had him as a teacher and I recommend him fully.

Comment:

Dr. Shih is one of the best professors at this university. He's so caring and teaches you about real life topics that truly matter and that'll stick with you. You read A LOT, but the books are interesting and he explains them well if you're having trouble. The exams are quite hard, so make sure you study and ask questions. Overall, a great man!

Comment:

This class has a lot of readings and discussions. During the beginning of class Shih gives out pop quizzes based on the assigned readings and movies that are in class but you can use your notes on them. So if you do everything he assigns you, you should be fine. Overall, easy class.

A LOT of reading and class discussion, he has pop quizzes. He's really knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. His grading criteria can be a little confusing but meet with him to clear up confusion, it is very helpful

He is really passionate about what he teaches and it's really interesting and eye-opening if you care about equity and diversity. Be prepared to read a lot outside of class and for a lot of in-class discussions. He has pop quizzes so make sure you're in class if you care about bumping up your grade

This professor was very good at his job and knew what he was talking about. I liked this class although it took a lot of effort. However, any writing class is going to be hard and take a lot of work, but I could suggest this professor the most. He cancels class a lot and cares about his students.

decent discussions, but they lasted foreverrrrrrrr. he would never cancel or end class early, and you had to attend each lecture because he wouldn't tell you if you had a quiz until you walked into class. he gave me a B+ and I did well on everything, English is my minor so that was upsetting. Disappointed by you, Shih.

Super friendly and understanding professor. Read the books/watch the videos and movies he assigns and you will be in good condition. Papers are pretty easy and I actually enjoyed attending his lectures. Very nice man. 11/10

This class wasn't particularly difficult, especially if you like reading, but the papers got to be kind of a pain. The exams were RIDICULOUS, but he curves them if they are bad enough, so it's not hard to get a good grade. Nice guy though.

He didn't give us back our exams for 5 weeks. His exams are near impossible, and the class average was a F until he curved it. Do not take him. It is a 100 level class and it was so much work and a waste of time.

Comment:

Dr. Shih is a great guy, his lectures are super interesting and make you think. His assignments are also easy, tests are a-little more hard but he covers almost all of the content in class. His lectures go by fast and are worth going to, he also is very understanding if you just shoot him an email. Would for sure take another class with him.

I really like Dr. Shih. He is a very nice guy and he is very understanding. He has 3 question quizzes regularly on the books we read so make sure you do the reading before class. Follow what he says for the papers and you'll do fine on them. The tests were kinda hard.

I love his lectures, discussions, and content of this class. Professor Shih also seems like an incredibly understanding and worldly person. Yet I feel like when I have personal concerns on things like assignments or grades he can be very lackadaisical in assisting these issues.I do not feel like a priority even though his class is one of mine.

This class is terrible and soooo boring. All he does is discuss talk and discuss political issues. The material is not at all interesting. I would not recommend this class!

Professor Shih was great! His lectures were so interesting and make you think! He cares about his student's success and he shows it. He's always willing to see you during his office hours whenever you need help with something! He gives a rubric for every assignment, follow it and if you have every point included on each assignment you'll do great!

David is a really nice guy but this is a boring class. My class was once a week for 3 hours and it became quite repetitive. don't take this class if you don't like to read because you read about 4 or 5 books. the material was pretty interesting and would have been better if it wasn't a 3 hour class. I got a B+ with average effort.

Dr Shih is phenomenal! Very easy to understand and opened my eyes to so many concepts I had not yet grasped. I finished his class really feeling changed as a person, and for a college class to do that is pretty incredible.

I really enjoyed Dr. Shih as a professor. He offered us fair time to get our essays turned in and to see him in office hours where he was super helpful and made sure my questions were answered. I thought the content of the course was eye opening and interesting. I took him as a professor the next semester because I enjoyed his teaching so much.
