Thanks to covid our class got switched to online over night. Erik doesn't even flinch. Just keeps on delivering awesome lectures and course material online like nothing has happened. Really cares about his students, great sense of humor, and a stand out among the professors.

Comment:

Had a great semester with Erik! Love the dry sense of humor and he really cares about the students. Great at conveying the material through the lectures. The homework assignments, though difficult and lengthy, really help you understand the material. Definitely recommend for anyone serious about comsci.

Comment:

Class is graded mostly on 10 programming assignments. They start off pretty similar to CPSC230 but get super tough after the midterm, although you do get 3 "extension days". Lectures are on the basic ideas of coding, you'll need to look up how to do more specific things yourself, but I definitely would attend them or you'll fall behind super fast.

Comment:

Class wasn't easy but also wasn't impossible. Exams are extremely important, don't bother getting the recommended textbook though. This professor gives some great explanations of things in lectures but also isn't necessarily very clear on what's necessary in assignments. When in doubt, ask more questions; he's awesome with helping students excel.

Very good teacher. Focused more on his upper Division classes so there is not much effort needed in this class. A final project at the end is worth the majority of your grade. Wants everyone to pass

I took as many as Erik's classes as I could and it turned out to be a great investment, for now I'm at Google - he played a major role in my academic path. The stuff he taught me, on and off-topic, helped a lot with the infamous Google interviews. Pay attention in class, do your assignment, ask lots of questions and you'll learn a lot.

Dr. Linstead is the kind of professor who you can ask 1000 questions and he'll provide 1000 in-depth answers in a way that you can clearly comprehend. The course is a challenge, and if you put in the effort, you'll pass. Talk with him, ask questions, learn to love the material, and you'll get so much more out of it than just a grade.

Really liked the HCI course, great way to spend interterm. Dr. Linstead does a good job of fitting the material into 1 month. Lectures are always lively (he's a funny guy). Much less stress than data structures!!!

Intense is the best word to describe him. Either he doesn't know he's not at Stanford or he doesn't care. Either way you will learn a ton and he knows what is important to teach. My friend knows someone who used to work with him in industry and he is highly respected in that circle too.

Assignments are very hard but you will learn ALOT. Your life will be a mystery and you will have no idea what grade you have in the class. Dont expect to get any assignments back. Tests are extremely difficult. This class will be the focus of your semester dont take any hard classes along with it. Good luck! He seems evil but he actually is nice.

In addition to SE, I've also had him for Data Structures, Database, & Operating Systems. He's a great teacher but is definitely a challenging teacher. Difficult but in a good way, not in the usual annoying way. I recommend taking any classes you can with him since he has great experience and really teaches his classes in a great way.

Erik holds his students to a high standard. If you're not willing to put in time and effort, don't enroll. Just keep up, be confident, & have a sense of humor and he'll like you. Don't expect to get any work back. Seems like he grades based off of how confident/knowledgeable you seem, and then factors in test/quiz grades. Don't be afraid to ask Qs.

Hard classes, but is the best professor I have ever had. Will make you work for your grade, but then rewards you nicely. Not a skate by class, but a life changing class. Stay away business majors and get a real major! You will learn a lot and study hard for the tests because they are damn near impossible. Good Luck ;) (p.s. he is funny)
