Professor Harrod has been teaching for a long time, and it shows through his sheer knowledge. He designs exams in a way where you have to truly understand the material - EI with him really helps piece everything together for exams. His grading is fair and homework is easy but effective. Essay heavy!! His class made me work but it was a good one.

He assigns lots of readings, but not many students do them and it's really obvious when he tries to ask questions during class. Lectures are pretty hard to follow and all over the place. Your grade is pretty much determined by the tests, but he gives note outlines to study from. Great class, though, if you want a 50 minute nap.

All classes are entirely heavy on lecture, which are mere outlines of the content. Homework is inconsequential. His homework is worth only 1 point each, while each midterm is several hundred, and the final is 500. His finals are pure essay questions, which require very specific answers if you want more than a C. He lets you sleep in class though!

He is very entertaining and interested in the material. He breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. Tests are very essay heavy.

Be ready for weekly Midshipman "Jokes" on Fridays. Literally zero homework and tests every 5-6 weeks, but he grades very hard on those tests. He says he's okay with students sleeping.

Prof. Harrod spends half of class scribbling on the board and the other half cracking bad dad jokes. He understands Midshipman life and is ok if you fall asleep. His note outlines are perfect to study for tests (I used those rather than taking my own), but he grades tough, especially on essays. Homework takes less than 10 minutes, super easy.

Professor Harrod is, let's say eccentric. You will be shocked in a different way on the first day of class. He is very unclear on grading standards for exams and essays and turn around is very slow, often saying: "I'll get it back to you by the time you graduate!" Overall really funny dude who keeps lectures lively.

Super cheesy jokes, easy to fall asleep, not the best notes - pretty easy to get a B, pretty hard to get an A. The tests are all writing, essay heavy.

He's a great guy but your overall grade is pretty much all your final... Tests are ALOT of writing so be ready. It's kinda hard to stay awake in his class so definitely sit in the front. Not a bad class but Beware of the grading criteria, Homeworks are worth 1 point but finals are worth 400, just to put it in perspective...

Nap day every day. Great professor but just sit in the front and hang on to your consciousness.. easily fall asleep. Gives you great material for studying for his tests and will grade fairly. Cheesy jokes so be ready to "fake" laugh.

Fred Harrod was my TA (Teaching Assistant) when I was a sophomore in US History at Northwestern in 1969. His jokes were just as corny then, and he was just as great a guy with the same grading.

Hilarious personality with constant jokes in class. Even though most of them are terrible, everyone appreciates that he tries hard. Nice guy that gives out good grades. Doesnt freak out if he catches you sleeping. Try to get him because he is probably the most entertaining teacher in the department and one of the most entertaining at USNA.

A really off the wall type of dude. Super nice guy and has been at the Academy forever. Papers can be tough sometimes though and the tests will definitely require knowledge. His film class is awesome, make sure you read the syllabus so you know when the movie days are so you can bring yourself popcorn or something.

Professor Harrod is hilarious. He cracks puns in class although most are pretty bad. Somewhat messy on notes, but he repeats things often so you can copy down what he says. Somewhat hard grader on tests and papers, but he's good at EI. He also speaks very loudly so its not hard to stay awake or entertained in his class.

He likes to make a lot of puns in class, which don't end up being very funny though. His notes are very messy, so you'll probably take notes from what he says rather than what he writes. He grades very hard on the essays and test because he is really, really into dates. Obtaining a B is easy. However, it is possible to get an A if you work hard.

Like a cartoon character. Easy class. Good guy, just nuts. Grade consists of a paper, 2 tests and a final. Just read and your good. You wont understand his notes when you go back through it. Overall good teacher.
