Comment:

Hooks is a nice guy, but he is way too old to be teaching. He always looks so lost and forgets what he is talking about mid-sentence. He puts a lot of stuff on the test he never mentions, but 2/3rds of the questions are so easy, so its basically impossible to make below a 70 or above a 90 on the tests. If you have him, always go to class.

He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not know how to use a computer, he forgets what he does of doesnt teach us so the tests sometimes have random questions on them. He is rude and compared to other sections we learn less than nothing and the notes are scribbled drawings. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!

Comment:

Pretty straightforward; just take good notes and pay attention. He hates people who leave class early and people he talk and he'll call you out on that, but he's a pretty funny guy. Lab is a pain, and lots harder than it should be but lecture isn't bad. Bring colored pencils to class for your drawings; sometimes he'll give extra credit.

Just show up to class and sit near the front. He does go off on random things, which include a dirty joke or two, but all in all what ever he draws will show up about +90% on the tests, if one drawing shows up more than once that will be on the test. If you don't go to class, take notes, pay attention, you WILL fail; simple as that.

I loved Professor Hooks. Some students in the class complained about being confused, but it was due to their lack of attendance. Professor Hooks doesn't use the textbook at all and does drawings on the board in class that comprise 90% of the test material. He's funny, I enjoyed his lectures, and found the class to be pretty easy.

Great Guy and Teacher!! GO to class, b/c tests come from the drawings/notes he gives! DO NOT talk in class: you WILL be thrown out. Should've had an A but Lab is hard. TAKE him, SO easy!

Best science you'll take at UA. Hooks was MUCH better than the other GEO professors. His tests were easy if you completely understood his diagrams. Just ask him to thoroughly explain them. Really liked him a lot... Sweet little man.

BORING. very unclear diagrams that show up on the test. Don't buy the book!! Not a bad prof, just confusing the way he teaches. Skips around a lot but he's funny a lot of the time

Super easy science credit. Dr. Hooks is hilarious. He's ancient, but he manages to keep you interested in class. He doesn't know how to use a computer, so we had some problems with posting test grades. Also, because of that, he won't make powerpoints and writes the notes on the board, so sit close to the front. Drawings are all on the tests.

Amazing teacher! He makes class fun! He is very old but knows his stuff. Class isn't mandatory but SHOW UP ANYWAY bc his test are strait from the notes! He doesn't want to learn how to work power points so all notes are taken on the board! Draw everything he draws bc it will probably be on the test!!

Easiest science class I have ever taken at UA. His test are extreamly easy and come from his lecture notes. No need for the book. I only studied about 30 min. the night before the test and made A's on all of them. Easy A!!!!

I would reccomend not buying the book if you take this class. I never used mine, the tests come straight from his notes. Which means you have to go to class, but he is a funny guy and makes class interesting.

Awesome teacher!! I loved him, he made geology really interesting. Make sure you attend class and write down all the stuff on the board and you'll do well in the class. He's also very entertaining and makes fun of rednecks and Auburn people. :-)

HE IS AMAZING! SO FUNNY!!! always has intresting stories to tell the class. talks bad about Auburn whenever possible :-) tests come straight from class notes, diagrams, & drawings. gives study guides for major tests & exams. shows slides in class from his trips. hates it when people talk when he's talking, but likes it when you ask questions.

Not as easy as it used to be apparently. Lab is somewhat difficult, but graded easy. Tests come straight from the notes, particularly his drawings. He makes it as interesting as geology can be, if you have to take it take him.

I absolutely love this teacher! He tells you exactly what you will need to know for the test while at the same time making class interesting and fun. He tells really silly jokes to keep everyone entertained. I highly recommend this teacher, he is one of the best I have had at UA.

I absolutly loved Mr. Hooks! He is very funny and keeps class interesting. He does not used power point but his test questions come STRAIGHT from his notes and drawings. Although class is not manditory, it helps to go and get the notes and he even gives out test question hints. This is byfar the best teacher Ive had!

Comment:

He is a funny old man that keeps you entertained with his funny comments. Class is not mandatory alothough helps when taking test. Buying the notes make test easier but you must study more than just those because their are diagrams on test that are not in those notes. Just get a buddy in the class to help out when you miss and you will do well
