Comment:

Great class! I just took Biblical Hebrew as a fun class to keep me full time, but it turned out to be my favorite class. Very smart, funny guy, you learn a small amount of material extremely well in this class, and if you are intelligent at all, will get an A. If that's condescending and arrogant, then you're probably retarded.

He rocks! His class has way too much information, so he interrupts lectures to say interesting facts about the randomest things! It was definitely a class I didn't want to miss! Interesting material, and entertaining professor!

Comment:

Nice, funny guy who knows his material. The class is almost all lecture with some videos thrown in there, as well as 2 or 3 weeks of student presentations. He gets distracted easily and it's not uncommon to spend half of class telling stories from everyones weekend. He appreciates jokes in papers and presentations if they're appropriate.

I love Cooley. He's the man. The reading guides are the best because he doesn't grade them closely he just checks to make sure you have them done. The material is not very tough. The class is actually entertaining.

Funny Guy, helpful, great with lecture notes, and tries to keep the interest of his class, by telling jokes,which is very effective. Also knowledgable of the material covered in class.

Very funny guy and makes an uninteresting topic somewhat interesting. That being said, his tests are very hard and although he gives you a study guide before each exam, it does not really help at all. The two papers are nearly impossible and take forever.

Cooley is a funny guy, but even that does not make up for the material, very dry. Have to do about 25 reading guides over the semester that end up saving your grade (because tests are impossible) but the reading is tough. papers are huge. very smart, but just not a good at teaching clearly. helpful outside of class when you track him down

Hilarious teacher. very helpful if you ask for help. responds to his emails quickly and thoughtfully. will help you on papers if you ask to meet with him. revise your papers! has no qualms ab writing "awful sentence" beside a run on sentence. ha! dont use websites for info for papers, use UC's library bc xu has v. few books. tough grader, nice guy

I enjoyed both classes because even though the subject matter is dry, he makes it interesting and fun. If he ridicules or teases you, he likes you. He doesn't respond well to e-mails, because he's got a new baby in the house. You try working on your doctorate, teaching 3 classes, and having a baby, jerks.

Yeah cooley is a funny and all around good duy but unless you are extremly into this stuf do not take, tests are near impossible and the papers will take you forever (unless you useually compare the text of isiah at qumran to that of the masoritic text, and feel like reading and analyzing 300 varients) nice guy...BAD CLASS

even though most of the lectures are laced with jokes and humor, cooley knows what he is talking about. i dont mind that he uses notes in class. he is very organized and he makes an effort to connect with the class. that at least makes the class tolerable. he is not above his students and he doesnt play favorites. everyone is equally a target for mockery and ridicule. thats what makes him a good teacher.

terrible course, minimal educational value. cooley is condescending and thinks he's hilarious, but hes not funny at all and quite irritating. easy A though - substantial curving to avoid any complaints, i imagine. i can think OF an almost infinite number of better ways to spend $1600. WEAK.

JCool is a great professor. The material was bland, but he kept you interested and awake. He's aware that the material is boring and does his best to remedy this. The test and exams are tough, but if you put some effort into it you can succeed. I'd suggest take JCool, and I'd take him again.

The people bashing J-Cool obviously didn't come to class or pay attention at all. I learned so much and was always entertained. He's hilarious and made an otherwise very boring subject come to life. His paper assignments were lengthy and his tests were hard, but he graded very generously.

Wow. Cooley is an unbelievably bad teacher. His assignments are poorly planned. He uses Powerpoint way too much! He NEVER responds to emails. Terrible, terrible teaching. Assignments are unclear, lectures are irritating, off topic and tedious. Avoid taking him. XU - Please remedy this. Fire him!!

This class has been a nightmare. No educational value at all. At best, this course is a 50 minute rehash of a Premium Blend episode from three and a half months ago with a bits of substance sparsely dispersed throughout. How can this possibly be costing me money?
