Mr Pekins is an exceptional professor, who clearly loves what he does and it shows to each and every student. I loved his class, and if my major, didn't require me to take another English that he didn't teach, I would have taken him twice! He is the type of mentor and professor that today's college students need. Take him, take his class now!!!!!!!

Excellent professor!! He is very passionate about writing and desires to help students. Essays make up 70% of your grade and writing assignments make up 30% of your grade. If you do the work you will pass the class

mr.pekins is a wise teacher. however he strays off topic, an class is never really class, because he's always blabbering about his college experiences. He is not organized, and lost ALL of my work i turned in. Not to mention he lost one of my essays 3 times! An refused any electronic work.He seemed understanding of course, but thats unacceptable.

Mr Perkins is an awesome teacher ! You will need your book! But he really helps you with your grades, 3 main essays. The entire semester drops the lowest grade and you get a chance to revise the best one ! There's no way you can get less than a "B" ! S/n attendance and tardiness is important

Mr Pekins is awesome. You have one or two simple hw assignments a week and 4 essays. Very awesome guy and will help with anything. Got an A in his class and im not even that great in English. Definitely take him!

Mr. P is the MAN. Coolest guy you will ever meet. Very flexible about due dates and really makes things interesting. Also makes the corniest jokes in the world and yet somehow he is still hilarious. If you have a chance TAKE HIM. You wont regret it.

Great teacher. Always really kind, gives you plenty of ideas to think about, and is very laid back. He is also very flexible about his timelines. Give him great work and he will be happy. Very encouraging as well, makes you feel like an author...even though you clearly aren't lol...feel good kinda class :) would take again

As is the case with another post, I also had him as a high school teacher. He was AMAZING! Creative Writing, 7th period, was always such a wonderful way to end the school day! I will never forget him and the many friends I had in that class way back in the day!

Pekins is an incredible teacher. He grades based on how dedicated you are to improving your writing. He knows exactly how much work you're putting into the class and will judge appropriately. If you want an easy time, he's not for you. If you plan to ever write again after his class, you will benefit from him.

Dont take this teacher, If you are not the essay type, not a big fan on writing, u may be out of luck, he tries so hard to make u become a writer, but if u arent, u just arent. U will pay the price dearly. Maybe summer session are not a good pick for him, maybe fall is but the lectures he does with the lights off will throw u for a loop. DONT DO IT

I took John for one class in the 80s. It was his first time teaching at TCC. John was not just my professor but my mentor and guide and became my friend for life. Though he is a fine teacher, there are better ones I am sure. But John was the right teacher for me at the right time for this lost, immigrant kid. My gratitude for John runs deep.

Amazing professor. The semester I spent with this class was my best semester in terms of graded papers both in his class and in other classes. I learned a lot about my writing with him and as long as you put some interest into your work, you'll find yourself obtaining some of the best grades for your best work!
