Comment:

John is hard but fair. He is lecture heavy, but will definitely helpful outside of class too. He makes class fun and cultivates an inviting environment. He does require you to read the textbook to fully understand what's going on. He's upfront about that. Quests are good as long as you're committed.

Comment:

To some "lecture heavy" and "tough grader" might be bad things. But John is fair. He is upfront about being a hard grader, is never condescending or mean about your grade, and is always happy to help outside of class and go over tests and homework with you. Ochem is lots of work, but if ur willing to put in the effort, u can get the grade u want

Comment:

Pretty easy going class if you study and do the work sheets. Many extra credit opportunities, he drops lowest quizzes, and gives the opportunity for test corrections on the first exam. I enjoyed this class and recommend this professor if chemistry is hard for you.

Comment:

I would rather have just used class time to read the book on my own, because his lectures come straight from it. His style is very "traditional" in that he writes EVERYTHING on the white board. This made class time a bit frustrating as you will spend the majority of the time just frantically trying to scribble everything down without processing it.

There is lots of extra credit and opportunities to get an A. Lectures do not cover the basics of chemistry enough for class,and can be confusing. Friendly teacher, somewhat helpful, rambles. His Moodle is set up pretty good.

Weekly quizes and 3 tests are the only thing graded. Lowest scores for quizes are dropped, and test corrections on the first test. Lectures ramble about things we didnt need to know. Study the optional worksheets, they are on tests. Very reasonable with students. We convinced him to give 3 take home quizes. Be prepared to teach yourself.

loved him as a teacher for the class. He would answer all questions and was really clear about what exams would be on. The study guides and quizzes given if studied for exam you should have no issue passing. He gives weekly quizzes based on what was learned in lecture previous week, but drops your lowest scores. Allow test correction on 1st test.

I couldn't be any happier with this professor. John will sit with you after class and discuss the most interesting of things relating to chemistry and life. My experiences with him as a professor breathed life into my curiosity and approach to chemistry.

His lectures are awesome! He gave just the right amount of information during class. Just study your notes for the weekly quizzes! Oh had he's handsome, that always makes lecture more entertaining..

John is a highly intelligent chemistry professor. He is so passionate about his subject that he rambles on a whole story or you forget what the subject was by the end... His tests are alright, no practice exam was provided (Doug's class got one!). Easy lab grader. Study on your own time to pass with A's!

Comment:

Fantastic teacher, makes lectures interesting with constant humor and interesting examples. Not the fastest grader, but compensates by being generous with due dates. Exams are challenging, but should be reasonable if you study your quizzes. Genuinely cares about his students and the class. Expect him to talk your ear off if you stop by his office.

Comment:

Habitually late to class, lab, and handing back graded work: but he accepts work late, so it worked out good for me. Easy grader on labs, tests harder to score high. Final is cumulative and almost word for word taken from other tests. Smart guy, decent sense of humor, very tolerant, somewhat political, easygoing but I sensed some apathy.

Presents material organized and in an unintimidating manner. Works with students to get past barriers, gives up weekend time for study sessions before exams, is concerned about green chemistry in lab and the materials used. Encourages students to think for themselves. Excellent instructor.

Excellent instructor. Very helpful. Presents difficult material in a way that makes it easier to understand. Does a great job of providing information that parallells and supplements the text book. Challenging class, but not impossible.
