Take Novel Into Film if you can! I loved the material he chose, and the final screenplay project instead of a traditional test or essay was great! Usually, online discussions are awkward, but I felt that the way he set them up made them engaging! I don't know what he's like in a physical classroom, but you couldn't pick a better online class!

Took Kevin for a basic fiction requirement for my creative writing major, and I'm so damn glad I did. He fosters an amazingly friendly learning environment and allows our craft to grow as a group while also being extremely supportive, personable, and accessible. I loved every minute.

Had him twice now for workshop. If you are a fan of cinema thinking in your writing; Kevin is your prof! I found him to be a very fair minded professor who let the grad students practice their craft as equals rather than underlings. Highly recommend if you're a PF student!

Maybe I'd enjoy this class with him better if it was in person because the summer session online course is very intensive and he allows very little margin for error. He is enthusiastic but can come off as condescending if you don't do all the work, but to be fair he set it up in a way that is very stressful if you actually have a life.

Comment:
Not a fan of his style--because it is misleading. It seems conversational, but IT IS NOT-- you have to listen and then spit it back verbatim in the pop quizzes. I feel like his teaching is tangent based, where he improvises his lectures, so it's inconsistent. I think he is very hit or miss-- unfortunately for me, it was a miss.

Kevin Miller is a perfect human being! He is SO nice. I was scared about my stories being workshopped but the atmosphere in his classroom was always very happy and relaxed. He would make jokes about your story, but they were so funny that you would laugh to. Especially to people who aren't WLPs who want to take fiction, take his section!

I'd consider majoring or minoring in this course if I could. It's such a good hybrid of the WLP and VMA disciplines at Emerson. READ THE NOVES! They're great and you get quizzed. The screenplay final project was awesome. Kevin's a hilarous, great teacher.

Miller's a great guy, cares about his material and teaches a lot of interesting courses. He'll do what he can to help you out. I agree that his lectures are a little awkward, he invites comments but students seem worried about talking over him.

I've had him for three classes and I haven't been impressed. He wastes huge amounts of time ranting about completely irrelevant things and his classes tend to be boring. I will say that he is careful to choose inexpensive textbooks and he is willing to help if you talk to him about problems.

Good teacher. Took Americans in Paris. Bad decision. I hated the course material, and most of the featured authors. Miller was fun and extremely nice and very lenient. If you have problems, just talk to him, he is very understanding, and after speaking with him, I was able to apply myself more to the course.

Kevin is really nice, but kind of holds back and doesn't exhibit much control over what is said in class. He recites a lot of passages out loud in weird voices, and I don't get much from that. He's really into how writing will translate to film. Not my deal, but he is a nice guy. I'd just like more focus on the technical aspects of writing.

I've had Kevin twice. He's fun and enthusiastic. Chooses good reading material in lit and always has enough to say in workshops. He's not quite as smart as he'd like you to think, but it's forgivable.

By far one of my favorite professors - knows and loves his subject, has a great sense of humor, and makes every class both informative and fun. I've had him twice and he's my thesis coach. He's tough and can be critical, but its all worth it. Take Novel into Film if you can!

Kevin is a lovely person with a sense of humor to boot. The material is great and the discussions are pretty informative. Definitely more about techinque and style than context. With Miller you get playful renditions of the stories in fun voices. (He's not bad on the eyes either. rawr)

Kevin is absolutely amazing. His classes are always fun and entertaining because even if you're not that into the current topic, he pulls you in with his enthusiasm. Only a few assignments and a book every week and a half, but easily the ones I've learned the most from in college with the best comments from him because he wants you to learn.

Comment:
Way too much hype about this guy. He's very interested in the novels & films and shows enthusiasm, but most of the time this results in a ten minute performance of lines from a novel in weird voices. It's a pretty easy class. I didn't learn as much as I expected, mostly aimless class discussion. And "hot!" is a stretch. "Quirky" is better.

OK, Kevin is kind of a wacko. We read 3-4 books about people chopping up people this year. I still am a huge fan. His classes get a little boring then he'll make some retarded comment, and suck you back in. He's nuts, but in a good way. I love taking LIT w/ Kevie!
