Buote has boring lectures and she isnt direct when it comes to essays. Unless you're an art history essay prod you will get no higher than a b on the essays. She also was too concerned with attendance, felt like high school.

The students complaining here should blame themselves for their bad experience, not this professor! She knows and is passionate about her subject and her high expectations only serve to benefit her students in the long run. She is actually quite understanding and helpful to students who don't treat her class like its nap time. Great class/professor

I like her as a person. She's funny sometimes and she's nice in my opinion. Her class is a little boring though, and even easier to fall asleep in since she dims the lights for the pictures. Her essay prompts are a little unclear and she grades hard too. It makes no sense. And her test questions are a little random at times. But I don't hate her.

Terrible teacher. Extremely hard essay grader. Not helpful what so ever to answer questions. Hates emails and refuses to help struggling students. Constantly talks down to people. This class requires a ton of studying outside of class and hours of memorization. I would never recommend her ever, to anyone.

I did not like this professor. Someone mentioned her "weird use of english", and its true. I started a counter each class of how many times she said "Notion of" (sometimes upwards of 8 times in ~2-3 minutes). Her tests cover material that was not mentioned in class, meaning you must read the book to get a good grade. If you do that its easy, though

Her lectures are boring. class is really easy though, if you study for the tests, that's all you will need. There really aren't any surprises on the tests. There were two mini papers, and those were easy, and if you handed them in early you could get up to 10 points extra on them. Make sure to go to class, she marks down for absences.

pleasant, humorous teacher, with penchants for Bush-bashing and mispellings. Tests seem to hit points that were not discussed. No patience for slacker boys, often mumbles and stumbles through lectures. try to avoid.

I would not recommend this teacher to anyone! her tests are obscure, with many questions unrelated to actual art history. class is boring, she drones on and annoys everyone with her weird language use. always says idier instead of idea. i have a huge passion in this field and was blown away by her lack of interest

Nice lady, with shap sense of humor. Her class is fun and interesting, but yes, you have to study to get an A. If you are looking for a easy class, and if you don't like to be present in every class, chose another one. othewise, go for it. she will make you learn tons! I really recomend it!

Recommended for the independent, disciplined student who takes good notes. Relevance of the material is brought into the student's life. You need to be patient and have a good ear though if you want both the grade and the real deal behind this class. Some test Q's an be technical and one must also read the book very carefully.

Pompous and condisending. You have to raise you hand before you can turn in your test! Since she regards everyone as children she puts random questions on the test to see if you were paying attention in class. So rather then studying art you have to memorize how many mistress an artist had, his high school nick-name and his food allergies.

Class consists of lecture w/ slides. She tends to seemingly get off topic, yet questions reguarding some unrelated side comment end up on the test. Test questions seem completely unrelated to art, art history, or anything relevant. Good note-takers and serious art students only.

It is not that this class is hard. It is that it is utterly arbitray. She bases the exams are her inane and often inaccurate rambling. If you can read her mind, the class is a breeze. If you want to learn anything or enjoy art history, take it from someone else.
