Mark writes his own reading assignments. You take weekly online quizzes (multiple choice and written). If you read his assignments, and do some open source research of your own, you will get high scores on every assignment. He is a relaxed grader. I spent approximately 1 hour per week, about 4 hours on the final project, and 1.5 hours on the final.

Tough, but fair grader. If you keep up with the work, you will definitely get an A or B. Grades on spelling, so be careful. I took a bunch of online classes, his was the best in Music Tech.

Music & Media is an awesome class, and Prof. Anderson is a great teacher. He will take points off for spelling, so be careful - harder than other online profs. Always responded to my questions right away. Great class.

This is a great class and professor. I just turned in my final, and realized it wasn't as easy of a class than I thought at first, but I learned a lot and it really helped my writing which helped in my other classes. Prof. Anderson is really serious about spelling and grammar, but if you take his suggestions, turn everything in on time its an A.

I am loving this class! The reading is fun, the examples are just right (not too long, like my other online music class), and the weekly quizzes are easy if you read the module. Answers my questions right away. Great class.

Great class and instructor. Reading was easy and the music examples were great. Answers questions right away and gives advice if I needed it. Tests are easy if you read the materials. Gives you credit for going to a show!

I had a tough start in this class, but he gave me a lot of outside help and now I'm getting an A. Answered all my questions the same day. I wish all my online teachers were like him. Great class.

Mark Anderson is an okay teacher. Not the worst I've experienced, but nothing about him stands out either. During finals week, he edited a previous module and removed a module that had information relating to a 30 point question, so he's left a bad taste in my mouth. He also seems to have problems with responding to PMs and grading on-time.

i took courses (commercial music program) from mark in 1997-98. it looks like he's still a good instructor. enjoy mark while you have him because when you get to los angeles, it's all about who you know and working the unpaid internships.

Comment:

This is my favorite class at Foothill so far. I have learned so much about funk music that I never imagined. The course also talks a lot about how music in the 60's and 70's were a way to counteract racial prejudice, which I never thought about before. I hope I can take more classes like this.

Just turned in my final for this class, and wanted to say this class is great! I wasn't expecting much since I'm a music major and thought I knew a lot about pop/rock/hip hop but he really opened me up to some new music! Very helpful, answers questions right away. Easy A if you write concert reports (you can watch a concert on DVD, too).

one of the coolest classes i've ever taken. he's so passionate about what he's teaching and it's always interesting. the class is structured very well, especially for an online class. he's really opinionated so it's good to explore for yourself to generate your own perspective. i'll never forget all the great info i've learned from him.
