Comment:

Dr. Cooley is a nice man with good intentions. He is extremely intelligent and is that stereotypical eccentric professor. However, his Perennial Questions class is a RIDICULOUS amount of work. Within the first five weeks I wrote over 60 pages on the same topic. Boring classes, BUT as long as you put in the time, you'll make a good grade.

Comment:

One of the best professors I've ever had. I realized upon taking his class that I actually knew next to nothing about the subject (which I had once believed to have some knowledge of) and came out of the class with a much better understanding of the subject matter. The classes were a little terrifying in terms of work load, but totally worth it.

Brilliant professor. Great inspiration. He's someone who really cares about the subject. I learned more from this class than from any I've ever taken. Worlds have been opened.

Created class about critical thinking and education instead of indoctrination in which students aren't really allowed to disagree with the readings. Lectures (or ramblings) don't have much direction. Some essays graded on quantity without even a reading. Half of readings are armchair philosophy.

He is a very opinionated and condescending man who, if your opinion differs with his, will degrade you for the rest of the semester. If you do not agree with his views, pretend to agree for a good grade or, for amusement, create a debate session every class.

I took two of Cooley's classes many years ago. He is a tough cookie, but he is also one of the reasons I am a professional writer today. Take his class if you want to learn how to write well from someone who actually cares.

Dr. Cooley is probably one of the most interesting people I've ever met. He really wants his students to get something out of the class, though he does expect a lot.A 1-2 pg paper is due for every class, which can get pretty overwhelming, so be prepared to work hard. However,this is one of the best classes I've ever taken and I highly recommend it.

Cooley might possibly be the most self-important man I have ever met. Sometimes confuses his views with the great Greek philosophers. Hard class, lots of writing, very vague expectations. liked the material though.

Really nice guy and decent teacher. My writing has improved from his class. He can be really confusing at times. His grading policy is a little frustrating at times. On daily assignments he grades on quantity rather than quality. His writing prompts are very long and confusing.

Had him for honors. He is a bit obssessed with himself. He is very willling to help studetns. Class was boring,but I did learn how to write.

I hated Perennial Questions, but I LOVE Dr. Cooley. Although he expects a bit too much out of students (a 2-3 page paper was due almost every class period), he does an incredible job of translating the material that goes way over your head. He really cares that you get something out of his class.

Dr. Cooley is a fabulous teacher. He has some eccentricities and takes some getting used to, but it's well worth it for his teaching. He has a reputation for being hard, but it's only because he expects you to THINK. Don't expect to sail through his classes. They require real work, but you might find you enjoy it, and you WILL learn something.

This class was extremely confusing and boring. The whole semester was spent on the good life with no clear point to discussion. It was somewhat helpful to talk to him about your writings. If you have to take this class, try to get a differnt professor.

This man took my writing to a higher level. It's a difficult class, but he is very willing to help. It's an absolute miracle what his teaching did to my writing abilities. He is incredible. Oh yeah, make sure your writing slants to the left... that will help you in his class. Good luck!

One of the best teachers at berry. Let me rephrase that, one of the very few great teachers at Berry. He'll make you think. The class isn't easy but he isn't full of it like most profs so you won't mind working hard. Take as many of his classes as you can because he is approaching retirement age at which point berry will be even more pathetic.
