fall '15. hes in his 90s, he cant hear so dont expect to ask him any questions. the exams will throw u off as its nothing like what u do in class. exams are mostly conceptual, think eco1002. honestly the small book thats assigned and written by him didnt really help me as he does not prepare u for exams. there was a sub for the last few days.

just not fair. Baruch economics department is pathetic. After taking June O neil for Econ 3100 who was the absolute worst professor I have ever taken, I now have to once again teach myself the entire textbook and pray to pass. Guttman was probably smart in his day but he's too dam old to teach I mean COMMON!

He doesn't want to help you or answer your questions. If he doesn't let you pick his brain and learn from his experiences then who cares if he went to Harvard or MIT, or how old he is and what he's lived through? His tests are insane, if you do well in this class then you're going to be a great economist.

Very disappointing class with him. If you want to learn economics, don't take him, as he doesn't explain anything. Reads boring notes, forgets and reads them all over again, AS HE IS 90 OR SMTH LIKE THAT. Super upset over taking his class, learned 0! Wasted time and money, and on top of his poor teaching he gives bad grades! AWFUL PROFESSOR!!!!!!

The Professor does not tech very well because he is very old, probably 90, even more, does not have energy to tech. He should have retired. He does not explain enough class materials, you need to study by yourself. Try to avoid him, do not wast your money and time. Good Luck to you.

Noteread boring lecture. To leave it at that would be a mistake.Guy=MIT,Columbia MA,HarvardphD, gone around the world giving econ consulting service to gov't oficials. It's your job to make the most of his class by milking views, knowledge, and experience that is so valuable. Hardyet interesting. Why are some countries so rich while others so poor?

I took prof. Guttmann for 3200 and 4200. I received an A in both without much studying. The material for 4200 is simple as long as you just remember the main points and explain them. A lot of the info is fluff and as long as you study the main points of his note packets you can get an A. No one will show up for class

He is such a good professor, who actually knows how to teach, and has a vast knowledge in his field plus relates to the REAL WORLD! I really like this prof. and am saddened that he fell ill and wouldn't be able to teach the rest of the semester. I am looking forward to take him again in the spring.

I don't know why everyone hates him so much. He's not that hard. Two open book exams, mostly essays, and a paper & presentation on an underdeveloped country. As long as you do what he says and can write a few paragraphs you won't do that bad. Yea, class is useless, but attendance isn't mandatory and class always ends early.

Doesn't take attendance, no real need to go to class, you won't learn much from lecture, prof just reads his notes out loud. Midterm & final, both are mostly essay, open book & open notes. Questions are open-ended, just make sure you've read the book & marked it up for quick reference, and you'll be fine.

Exams are really hard. open book. one midterm and final exam only. exam questions are from no where. he curve the grade. if you already know the subject it is ok to take him.you don't have to be in the class.focus on what happening in the world and read his book. then you will be fine. however he is the only professor for ECO 4200.

Even though attendance is not mandatory, you should go and copy everything he writes on the board, since this is where he gets the majority of his test questions from. Tests are hard. Read the book and thoroughly review whatever he wrote on the board.

You don't really have to go to class for this course. what you need is the text. read them over again. final is killer with the essay exam. but, you just copy the text then shouldn't have a problem at all

Once you read the back cover of his book you will see where hes coming from. Pay attention in class which is the hardest part bc hes not too enthusiastic. But his rare jokes are really funny. Read his book and do really well on the midterm, bc that final is gona blow your mind. He is a smart guy who knows more about economics that bernanke.

well. if you really want to learn macroeconomics, then take him. if you just want to get a good grade, stay away from him. he is very knowledgeable person, of course, harvard Ph.D in eco. but, i think he should have been retired long time ago. his exam is open book and note but, the exam questions are from nowhere....
