Comment:
Prof. Rudnytsky is brililant and caring, but definitely not for everyone. Take him if you are serious about learing literary analysis. If you pay attention, take notes, and ask questions (in class and during office hours), he will prepare you for graduate-level work. If that's not your goal or interest, you might be better off taking someone else.

Coming from a junior English major, he has by far been my worst professor at UF. Hes condescending, rude, and only accepts opinions about the readings that reflect his own. He regularly calls out students in class and made students cry a couple times. There are only 3 assignments worth huge portions of your grade, the only paper being worth 40%.

you're graded on three papers based on material that's (subjectively) a slog to get through. for a class based entirely on lectures and interpretations, he's surprisingly stingy on what he deems worthy-enough interpretation.

The class is set up where the professor just sits at a desk in front of you and talks about the literature for the duration of class. If you take diligent notes, then you should be able to rely on them for ideas of what he wants to see in the papers and essays. His feedback is hard to understand but if you go to office hours he will help you a lot.

Professor is very tough, which is not a bad thing. If you do what you have to do, it isn't a problem. The problem I have with him is his attitude. He can have an attitude and not realize that he is treating you badly. The work is fine, it is the disrespect that comes from the Professor that I was disappointed with.

His format for all his classes are the same: Midterm, final, and 5-page paper. He allows 3 absences no questions asked, but does ask that you come to class prepared to have a meaningful discussion on the readings. I don't understand the people who say he belittles them. He is always respectful and tries to get students to understand his point.

Prof Rudnytsky is an amazing thinker and forces you to think critically. I think he gets low ratings because he is hard to understand and can come off condescending, but he actually tries really hard to make sure his students understand the material and what he is saying. He's super nice if you do the readings and participate and show you care.

A 3 hour block is usually a nightmare, but this professor really makes it interesting. I am not into poems, but I enjoyed reading Paradise Lost under professor Rudnytsky. He is very picky about attendance, I would recommend going to every lecture.

Comment:
This course consists of three assignments: midterm, 5-page essay, and the final. The essay instructions are non-existent and you are required to follow a pretentious style-sheet that does not elaborate or guide you into what this very picky professor wants. He is sexist, arrogant, and acts as if he is God. I will NEVER take this professor again.

I have taken two of his classes (for credit, all other classes I wanted were taken), and they were the most boring courses I have ever had the misfortune of being stuck in. He expects objectivity in what should be subjective material.

If you're into critically analyzing texts through his twisted psychoanalytic framework -- which he forces you to use -- then this is your guy. It's absolutely excruciating watching him disagree with anyone, he will belittle you in front of the whole class if he feels like it. Half of the class failed the midterm/papers and the books were terrible

I took three classes with Dr. Rudnytsky and all were engaging. His classes compose of reading assignments for homework with lectures and discussion during class. Discussion dominates his classes, and it was always analytic, creative and interesting. Overall, he's a really nice person. He even helped me with a personal problem after I graduated.

Do not make the mistake I did: If you are not an English major, DO NOT take this course. I am a 4.0 student and received a C+ in this class. It probably didn't help that I was taking 17 credit hours. Despite that, I did everything required and more. What's worse is I took the class and only needed Eng credits, not the specific course. It ruined me

I took a class on Milton's Poems with him and despite my usual inability to deal with three-hour blocks, this class was fascinating. Professor Rudnytsky's class has great discussions and he is brilliant and respectful professor who will encourage those who are there to learn. Not easy on the grading but helps students develop their writing skills.

A lot of the criticism here is unfair--Professor Rudnytsky was tough, but he really cared about his students and the subject matter. He made it interesting, and the class discussions were always lively. He was always available to clarify a point or give direction on an assignment. He's not rude, but he doesn't pull any punches either.

Worst experience I have had at UF. He is by far the worst teacher ever. Extremely sarcastic, not at all helpful and goes off on tangents the entire class period about things that have nothing to do with the subject. You are expected to have prior knowledge on the subject before entering his class or you will basically fail. He is a monster.

This class was the pinnacle of both my English degree and my time at UF. Prof. Rudnytsky is brilliant; if you're prepared and have the attention span to pay rapt attention during a 3-hour block class, you will learn more about critical analysis than from any other professor. He encourages free-flow discussion, but will share his views as well.

NO. NO. NO. I work EXTREMELY hard in every class I take, and this class was impossible. You must come to his class with pre-requisite knowledge if you want to succeed. He is subjective with little to no outlined grading criteria & doesn't give sufficient feedback for future betterment. Obnoxious attendance policy. RUDE AS HELL. Don't do it.

Boring. Boring boring boring. Took a three hour block class with him and it was excruciating. People may call him a "real professor," but while he seems enthusiastic about the subject he really fails to engage the class and make it interesting. His tests are very, very hard and it is difficult to determine what he wants from you.
