Comment:
Richard clearly understands the needs of a classroom. He shows true passion towards philosophy and the Marxist exam we were taking this quarter. He has all the class material online (save money for books!), and during class we get lectures and engage in discussions. You can learn as intensive as you want. His office hours are regular, and helpful.

Curtis is an overall good teacher. He has a very good understanding of the material, and I believe he relates it well. Most of the class is dedicated to lecture/discussions. A short paper is due on the nightly readings, which is easy but boring. It's not a hard class by any means, and he basically tells you what is on tests beforehand.

Yes, Professor Curtis is boring, but he knows the material and for anyone who really wants to learn about philosophy he is a great instructor. If you show up at class everyday, and turn in all of your assignments, you WILL get an A.

Large parts of our class periods were in silence while he waited for someone to talk. Not good at leading discussions, and his lectures weren't much better.

Mmmm..kay. I think I would rather naw of my right foot than listen to him talk! Ok, maybe he isn't as bad as all that, but he is extremely boring. One page paper due every class period, one midterm paper and one final paper. All papers on philosophers read about. I thought Phil 110 was boring, but it was nothing compared to this class!

He is very nice guy. He knows what he teaches and tries to help. but he teaches too much stuff in one qurster and his assignment is hard.Plus, he requires attendance (attendance is 25%of the grade). being in his class is hella boring. but don't worry, as long as you shows that you try, then you will get an A.!!

Professor Curtis is actually a pretty cool guy. I had a smaller class, so discussions were better & more interesting. He strongly encourages class discussions & attendence:-P He doesn't seem to care too much rather or not you know the information, as long as you can clearly state your opinions about them. Papers & tests are easy:-) Good class.

HORRIBLE.You will be bored out of your mind, the kind where you want to rip his your eyes outHe is pretentious and "encourages" class discussion without facilitating it or allowing any tangents. The final was 50 fill in the blanks and the ave grade was 25/50, he sent out an email&was like"looks like it was harder than i thought,i'll curve it" IDIOT.

The class was not hard at all. Just boring when we begin discussing philosophers. Keep up in readings and take good notes that are specific to details as you WILL need it for the mid-term and final. Two papers required on your choice of philosopher.

not my greatest subject; but he really tries to keep things going and likes the class to discuss stuff. He looks great in those 501s! Talking to him 1:1 helps clarify the readings. He really knows his stuff and is always prepared for class.

Mmmkay,so I'll give you something to talk about...Curtis is bad muthah "shut yo mouth" He is a nice guy, but it boring as all hell. His midterms are booty. Although he has no tests, you will pay the price by writing 15 page papers. I honestly fall the hell asleep and have to slap myself to wake up.

May not be the best teacher but if philosophy isn't your favorite subject, you are in luck! Reading isn't EXACTLY required. Two small papers and a take home final and midterm is all! NO TESTS! And a plus, he hates Bush so bash him well in a paper using a philosopher and you'll fet an A!

TERRIBLE, so incredibly boring. Doesn't know what he is talking about at all. However, he does respond to out of class questions very quickly.
