Comment:

Dr. Smith sets low standards for students and himself. So, it's easy to ace his classes, because the material isn't much and the workload is slim. However, he is difficult to reach outside class due to unexplained absences. I feel like I learned little but got to relax during my senior year; take him for upper-division courses to do the same.

Lectures are kinda funny. Quizzes and projects are easy. Tests can be a little hard but the class has enough easy padding that it is hard not to pass.

Professor Smith is an alright and funny guy, but his tests are tough. the structure of his class is such that he will test students on material that he has yet assigned homework on. His lectures, though important to attend, won't help you succeed on the tests and assignments nearly as much as the book would.

He's a horrible professor. Stay away from him if you can. You basically have to learn the material on your own through the book. His notes are just useless. His quizzes/exams are tough. You best do a bunch of practice problems in the book beforehand. The only positive thing I could say about him is that he makes jokes in class.

Great class. Has made a rather dry subject challenging and interesting. Rick is also really funny, and makes sure to learn everyone's name (how many profs do that, seriously?). I had the option of picking an "easier" instructor for computational linear algebra, but went with Rick because he's awesome.

Notes were directly from the text with just diff #s. He talked too much in class so we were always behind. Yes he was humerous but I was so annoyed everyday because instead of teaching the class, he entertained the class. He always called out to the students he remebered from the previous lecture and talked. Ask the TA and studu on you own to get A

I dont know what all the hate is about with this teacher. Maybe he's just not good to his Calc students? Our class was actually fun, he is quite humorous, and explained things crystal clear. Ive had over 10 college math professors throughout my college career and he was easily the best instructor.

Funny how the previous guy says Smith is way better than Kozinski when he/she went to class just twice. If you do go to class, you know Smith is just terrible at teaching. Better yet go to another lecturer. He is just very confusing. TZ will help. But his tests are just terribly difficult. Avoid him.

This class was extremely easy. He is infinitely better than Kozinski, trust me. His exams tested the material well, but with TZ help the class was overall a breeze. I showed up twice (for participation). He even posted on his website when to come to class. Overall a pretty easy A. Don't be intimidated by past comments, you'll do fine if you try.

This class is doable but you will have to put a lot of time and effort if youre not naturally inclined to math. Definitely avoid him as the lecturer (he is not very clear and makes up odd analogies), go to Huang's lecture if possible. Also, getting a good TA is KEY. I had Gentimis, he's great. Even if you dont have him go to his review sessions.

Try to avoid him if you can. While Im sure he knows math, he is horrible at teaching it. He frequently gets confused during example problems and just gives up and moves on like its a joke. Test are unnecessarily hard. Very little concern for students. I HIGHLY recommed Tutoring Zone, because you wont learn much from this guy.

Although he's very approachable, he doesn't care about his students and secretly wants them to fail. He posts the answer keys to tests up the day of the exam and thinks it's funny. Although I'm gettin an A, the exams are difficult. To do well, do every problem in the book and get a solutions manual to explain it to you.

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. By far the worst teacher I have ever had. His way of teaching something is (almost word for word off his lesson) read the problem, organized the problem, draw a diagram, use calculus to solve the problem. Note the last part, mind you this was in a CALC class.

I thought he was a good Calc2 teacher. To do well in his class, one needs to do the most, if not all problems assigned from the book. Go to class, because he gave extra credit quizzes (write your name and get 2pts). I got an A, so it is doable! Good luck!

You can tell that he knows what he is doing but he has a poor style of teaching. He thinks it is funny when he can't finish a problem during the notes & he just laughs & moves on. His notes seems easy, as well as the quizzes from the TAs, but when it comes to the tests, they are SO hard. I would take this class with another professor if possible.

Smith makes the class very fun. Unfortunatly his tests are very hard. To compensate he did give a lot of "extra credit" in the way of free quizzes. As long as you go to class everyday (including discussion) and do the assigned hw you should be able to get an A
