Comment:

Great professor. Participation is a must and you need to have done the readings before class because she will call on you. Besides 2 essays, a midterm and a final you must also give a few short presentations. She gives great and interactive lectures. You can tell she cares about the subject she is teaching.

I have never seen a more disorganized professor in my life. Every lecture is a mess with her yammering on and on and jumping from topic to topic. Way too much hw and way too much reading. She didnt show up to our promised review session, gives no clues as to whats on exams and she screwed up most peoples grades. Good luck reaching her via email.

very intelligent woman but, She is incredibly confusing, unclear and changes her mind about definitions constantly. Very disorganized. She rambles a lot, she is not clear about what will be given on tests or home work assignments. Readings are barely discussed or explained. I'd advise to stay far away.

You will need to buy SO many books. Aside from the course packets, there are at least another 3-5 books you will need to buy. If you don't have a background in Judaic studies this class will probably be very hard.

She is very disorganized when it comes to her course. She tries to cover too much. If you do not have a background in Judaic studies, I would imagine it not being easy for you. She never gave back our 1st paper. It's as if it had disappeared. However, she is there for help, only if you talk to her after class. GET READY TO BUY A LOT OF BOOKS

Flatto is the worst professor i have ever had. She doesn't seem to care about her students at all. Her syllabus is all over the place and she usually doesn't stick to it at all. The readings are super hard and her test make no sense at all. She doesn't make sense when she lectures and she picks on people. Worst decision i ever.

I had 0 knowledge about Jewish Text and it was my first time reading bible/Torah. It was a hard class for me. I felt like people who read or have some knowledge about bible or Torah would have easier time. I loved this professor as a person and as a professor!!!

Comment:

Professor Flatto is a dynamic teacher. She is very knowledgeable in Jewish History. I learned so much from this class. She instills a good basis for those that are not familiar with Jewish History. She gives a fair amount of work 2 short papers and a midterm and final. I highly recommend taking her class.

Comment:

Most unorganized disaster of a class. She barely covers anything, doesn't answer questions, and jumps all around the information from various topic to topic out of order. Assigns a ton of dumb papers and never fully answers her own q's in depth enough for you to know them.

Comment:

One of the best Professors in BC. She is warm, engaging, caring and an excellent educator. Knows her stuff! Readings are challenging but she is there to guide and help. She involves the class in discussions and doesn't bore students by lecturing for 75 min. Highly recommend!

Amazing class and amazing teacher. Prof. Flatto knows her materaial and presents it in a very structured and clear manner. College level discussions and critical examination of texts. This class inspired a Judaic studies major.

Her lectures are good; she answers the students' questions that was have to do with this course; she makes makes her students engaged in discussions and make oral presentations, which was extremely useful for the exams, as well as for the short papers; she gives students plenty of chances to get extra credit, in order to improve their own grades.

Amazing professor, very friendly and nice, knows the subject very well. Gives a lot of reading so her class is not that easy, makes you work for a grade, also tends to talk a little too much, but she's as good a professor as you can ask for. You will learn in her class.

Prof. Flatto is the best professor I ever had! She's very interesting and she is truly an excellent teacher. Our whole class loved her and we all wish we could take her again. She's very fair and a really nice person. You learn a lot with her and her class is enjoyable every time.

One of the worst professors I've had to date. Knows her stuff as everyone says but doesn't know how to impart her knowlege on to others. Gives numerous readings and loads of assignments. Hard midterms and even harder finals. If you can avoid this course please do. I definitely won't recommend her.

She knows her subject really well. You have to keep up with the readings b/c she likes to get alot done in one day. Tough teacher but she wants you to do your best. Allows you to write over papers, which is big plus.
