I thought a film class would be fun. Lots of writing and I learned about Eisenstein and mise en scene and the ROSEBUD scene in Citizen Kane. Brilliant use of journals before there were blogs. I highly recommend this professor for his able descriptions of film and he showed me that film is more than entertainment. It is culture

Comment:

His class is VERY tough and fast paced. Professor Alford is very funny, but some people can't take his jokes. Also, if you take his class, work hard from the very beginning since there's not many exams. If you have any questions, always email him - he is very willing to help. Be ready to contribute to discussion. Overall, I enjoyed the class.

Very difficult class for an intro class (Intro to Film) He uses powerpoints but it's better to take notes from the book along with his notes. he gives quizes every week on the chapter you were assigned to read. DO THE READING!!!! Also exams are in essay format no Multiple choice and his final essay is impossible. Withdrawal early if your dieing.

This professor has an obsession with English. make sure you're writing skills are up to snuff. Great teacher, but arrogant as all hell. Class is a film critique class. Not an easy A. This class should eventually be incorporated into a film major. Take extensive notes from the book. Watch out for the reading quizzes!

In general phil classes are boring to me, but he's a great professor, very entertaining-crazy humor. Prof. knows a little about almost every subject. Tests can be tough, but fair. Material can be difficult to understand at times. Overall class is okay.
