Comment:

Most of the labs in his class involve Python scripts, but they already have framework code that you just have to fill in. I used Python before this class, so the labs were fairly easy, and he gives you optional lessons to complete if you're unfamiliar with it. As long as you put in effort, you'll pass his class!

If you show up to class you should have no problem passing his class. Goes over everything he teaches thoroughly. All lecture notes are posted online in canvas. Lab for this class was fairly easy as he walked you through some labs and was available to help when you had questions. Will definitely take another class he teaches.

Barry is a great teacher. He does a good job explaining things during class and will re-explain them differently if a student is not understanding the current explanation. He provides examples to help you complete the labs and is happy to answer your questions.

Very knowledgeable and made the class fun. The summer class goes buy really quick and can be hard if you don't come to the class since it's all computer based. He is very good about posting notes after every class and isn't too strict on tardy/lateness. Really enlightening class

Doesn't have a clear structure for lectures and/or lab activities. Spent several days of lecture time sitting, listening to him, not being engaged whatsoever. Doesn't take roll, however it is very difficult to do the assignments outside of lab time, because he is not available to answers the questions you will have.

His lectures mainly involved what we needed to know to do the HW (best to bring a laptop and follow along than to take notes). We didn't have quizzes or a final, but we did have a couple group projects towards the end of the semester (using VCS). Quizzes were replaced by a bunch of java assignments. Overall good class and good professor.

Prof. Brown is a great instructor. Very knowledgeable and has an extensive collection of youtube videos with his lectures. Labs are fun, plus we've got to learn Python. Tests can be challenging, but the workload for this class is very doable if you pay attention and download his notes. I wished I could take him for Data Structures!

He seems like he would be an extremely good professor, if his lectures were not so rushed. This class is easy at first, but the pacing of this class is WAY too fast. He does not grade your hw until 6 weeks later, so you never know how are doing until it is too late. I am knowledgable in the code in this class yet I have no idea how to do the hw.

Great computer science teacher. Had the class engaged every day and he made learning the concepts easier. This class is one of the harder comp sci classes for sure, but he does things to help us out like posting youtube tutorials, giving two attempts at each quiz and averaging score, and online open note exams. Smart and friendly personality

Barry is an awesome teacher. He is very intelligent and knows so much about Comp Sci. If you're having a hard time understanding a concept, you can always shoot over to his extensive YouTube channel. Very respectable man.

Mr. Brown is intelligent and personable, and explains things clearly. However, he races through the lecture/demonstrations, so note taking is ridiculously difficult and you end up with incomplete notes. Furthermore, he deviates severely from the textbook into important topics, but ones for which there is inadequate support for beginners.

He is very knowledgeable and his explanations of the material are top-notch. The quizzes are generally not too hard, but the tests can be pretty difficult as they require you to know the material pretty well. Pretty much everything from lecture is useful for the tests. He takes a long time to grade the labs, but they save your bad test grades.

Barry is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is also a pain the neck. He is exceptionally knowledgeable on his subjects and makes you work hard for the information. He makes you really engage with the material and his weird puzzles and games. But that just makes it difficult to fall asleep in class, and easy to remember the material.

good teacher for beginners. difficult for advanced students. he makes many mistakes while trying to maintain an air of authority. i learned to keep my mouth shut and nod my head while he teaches the least elegant way of writing a program. he prefers stupid questions and wrong answers over students answering correctly. i don't understand the hype.
