Comment:

Professor Hayes did a lot to make sure we understood how to cite sources in MLA and APA. The labor-based grading system she used helped a lot since we could write without getting penalized for minor errors. Also, she's very kind, gives a lot of feedback on our writings, and allows extensions.

An angel. Truly. She gives so much feedback and lots of room to improve on each paper. Teaches us APA and MLA format. Allows extensions for all the papers. Super kind and understanding especially when we went online. Such a sweet woman and profanity was such an interesting topic as well. Really wants the best for her students

Comment:

Hayes is one of the best english professors I've ever had. She walks you through everything and gives very specific and helpful feedback on all drafts of your papers so doing poorly is almost impossible unless you don't try. The reading was minimal and class was cancelled quite frequently for one on one consults. She really cares about her student!

This professor is amazing! She truly cares about making sure her students understand how to write. She gives feedback on every paper, gives specific criteria and outlines everything she expects without limiting the creativity of your writing. You'll have to work hard, but Prof. Hayes will make sure she has given you every possible tool to succeed.

Prof Hayes is such a gem, take this UW!! She gives so much feedback and really cares about each and every one of her students. She can be a tough grader, but she gives plenty of opportunities to revise your writing for a better grade. 10/10 recommend

One of the best professors. So passionate, only gives readings that are interesting, & gives SOO much helpful feedback on your writing. She makes you work for your grade but only to prepare you for future writing classes, and she will give you so much feedback and is lenient so it isn't hard to get a good grade. And she is so knowledgable & kind !

Professor Hayes is the BEST writing professor/teacher I've ever had. She's ALWAYS available for help outside of class and she gives very detailed comments on how to revise papers. She makes sure everyone gets the chance to talk to her one on one which is reallyyy helpful. Best UW class offered and very interesting class (and relatable to students!)

Comment:

Hayes is by far the best teacher that I have had at GW. Her class is a lot of work and attendance is mediatory, but I learned so much in her class that it paid off. She is good about extensions on papers if you need them and did give one extra credit opportunity. If you stay on top of the work, you will get an A. I would definitely recommend her.

Best professor I've had so far at GW. She's tough, but she's crystal clear about what she wants from you. Not only does she give a TON of feedback on papers and explains her grading thoroughly, but she also emphasizes meeting with each one of her students one-on-one. Im a way better writer already. Highly recommend her class- you will learn SO much

Professor Hayes is very accessible and very clear with what she wants in the papers. I was in the Profanity class and she made the topics very interesting. The group workshops and a complete waste of time, I would just go by her comments on her papers. Really an easy class to do well.

Hayes is maybe the best professor I've had. While the subject is not always the most interesting, the class is amazing. She gives seemingly endless feedback on everything and you always know what she wants from you. She's a little harsh sometimes, but really wants you to succeed. Office hours are always great. She walks you through everything.

Prof. Hayes is wonderful. She is incredibly engaged and does everything she can to help you learn how to write. She will give extensions on papers and gives wonderful feedback. Group workshops and peer editing on two of the three papers are extremely helpful. You work towards the final rather than do it all at once. Love her.

This professor is a saint. She really wants her students to learn, to engage, and to be interested in the material. 3 medium to long papers (8-15 pages) but she has you turn in bit by bit so the final product pretty much you just have to put all the pieces together. She makes time for each individual student. Will give anyone extensions anytime.

She truly is one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. The workload can be high at times (such as when writing and preparing for each paper), but is most certainly doable. She gives great feedback on the drafts of the essays and, consequently, makes you learn a great deal. Highly recommend. Also, an A is most certainly within reach.

SHE IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Honestly... I thought I was a good writer prior to taking her class... HA! I improved so much I can't even express. She is also super understanding and responds well to constant communication. She's very willing to grant extensions, thus making the class very flexible. There is however a lot of work, so be prepared.
